okay,
so I just got my butt kicked on an anatomy exam today. The main focus was on the TMJ. I found it very hard to study the TMJ because 90% of the atlases and textbooks simply don't have enough information.

Our prof is huge on the TMJ. 10% of our test was reading a passage from Moore's Clinical Anatomy and circling all the false statements about the TMJ.

I had trouble with this because that was one of the very books I studied from!!

So my question is, what did you guys use to learn the TMJ? What goes in depth enough? Netter's Head and Neck for Dentistry has no where near what my professor wants us to know. Of course he only provides us with his own drawings.... so I really need a better source to study for the lab portion!!!

Have you tried wheelers text on dental anatomy. There's a whole chapter on TMJ and occlusion which I thought was very helpful. It had a lot of information on it that wasn't found in netters. Good luck!

We used Okeson's Management of TMJ Disorders and Occlusion. Pretty good reading material. 🙂

I'll second Okeson. I also like Shillingburg "Fundamentals of Fixed Prosthodontics." Obviously not an anatomy book, but very good text and good stuff on occlusion and what not.

does anyone know of any online resources? money is pretty tight for me at the moment...

We have a really good manual for our course that the TMJ specialist at our school wrote. Unfortunately, I don't really have way to get that information to you... but what I might suggest is asking an upperclassmen if they have a manual or textbook for their TMJ class or any other course that goes into more detail about it, and see if they can let you borrow it.
