I thought so too. But I changed my mind when I realized that I would probably go to Nova or UMDNJ over a few MD school I applied to.. and I am certainly not the most exposed to osteopathy so I bet that more than 1% would do that. However, it may be close to 1% of people who applied both MD and DO.

I'd be willing to go to the Kittanning Beauty Academy at this point if they'd let me practice medicine afterwards. The whole idea of having the luxury of choosing MD or DO when I'm getting love from neither is hilarious to me  MD, DO, BM, MF, whatever...

I guess I see what you are saying.. but you just added 3 DO schools clearly as a backup, so you obviously would choose MD over DO any day. I was just trying to say this may not be a case for some percentage of premeds.

Never challeng Dropkick Murphy to a game of Obscure Suicide Trivial Pursuit.
Interesting Fact of the Day:
In 1516, Muira Yoshimoto committed suicide by cutting off his own head, something that got him a gazillion style points (he was still dead, however).

Personally there are several DO schools I'd rather go to than some med schools (even highly regarded med schools), but that has everything to do with location and nothing to do with the DO 'philosophy'.

Sword? Saw? Spoon?

I worship Bea Arthur. Bow down!

Yes, but the "Golden Girls" was funny. Therefore, you are justified.
A.T. Still was funny, but he wasn't trying to be. Therefore, I am not sure if worshipping him is justified.

Seeing as he was a samurai.....I'm guessing he used a sword....how exactly he accomplished it.......I have no idea, but that would earn you the bushido equivalent of street cred I'm sure..... :meanie:

"bushido equivalent of street cred"

that's awesome.

Have to pity on all those poor samurai with no street cred...

actually, I added on the DO schools later because I came into some money and could finally afford it. I don't prefer MD schools to DO schools personally. My mentor is a DO who likes to "preach the gospel of osteopathy" i think it all comes down to which school fits for you. I'm really into OMM though, so I'd likely choose a DO school over an MD one I guess. I just don't think I'll have the choice at this point. I'm seeing a return to Blockbuster Video in my professional future to be honest with you.

I've seen enough Myth Busters to know it is harder than you'd think to decapitate someone. I have mad respect for this dude. A ceiling fan made of sharpened blades won't do it. I'll tell ya that...👍

I was one of those humbled by my MCAT score in April (retook now in August) and decided to look into DO. However, I did not know much about DO except for negative things I heard from other premeds. When I researched osteopathic medicine and shadowed a DO I really fell in love with it. In fact I think that osteopathic schools teach medicine the way it should be! I am applying to a few allopathic schools though as well, not because I prefer them but because they have qualities that I am looking for in a medical school. I want the best school for me and have no problem choosing an osteopathic school over an allopathic school. I fell that I have done a lot of research into the subject and want to make an educated, well informed decision. I am also happy that more people are looking to DO for whatever reason because that means that the profession is becoming more well known.

Your Mcat is only a point lower than mine and your gpa is MUCH higher. You should be good at the osteopathic schools.

I've worked enough car accidents from people underriding the side or back of a semi trailer to know that it's hard to decapitate someone. Normally the face crushes inward, backward and downward (LeFort fractures) and once the cranium's integrity as a dome is compromised it crushes just like a hardboiled egg thrown against a wall. These things will happen well before you get sufficient blunt force to sever the spinal column and the neck musculature.

I've been in EMS about 10 years now, and I've seen 4 decapitations- three from car accidents and one from an elevator surfing accident.

I would have to say that he used his katana because it would take a two-handed weapon with some length to accomplish the task quickly.
Yes, but I don't know how he could generate enough force to cleave the blade through his cervical spine.

MiesVanDerMom, your MCAT is great, better than mine and I'm sittin' on 4 accetances. You should be getting plenty of love from DO schools (not that the MCAT is all they care about, but it should get you in the door to interview). Just wait, they'll be begging for some VanDerMom love soon.

Now that graduates of Kittanning Beauty Academy have been deemed eligible to sit for both USMLE and COMLEX they have seen a tremendous upsurge in applications. However, your scores seem competitive so I'd apply if I were you.

If I didn't have a girlfriend, I would be begging for some of that too.... 😉
