Here's to hoping this week will bring some good news! It's a brand new month and I think it's about time I started hearing from some of the places I interviewed at in mid-September and early October. Who's with me?!

:luck: to all!

I'm with you. Good news is just what alot of people need to start concentrating on ugrad again, like myself. Been in a major slump stressing out over interviews and such, and it would be nice to hear something good comes out of it this week.

Yeah, I'm with you too! This week is either going to be awesome or is going to suck....

Hey, DGHiker, I'm pretty sure we interviewed at one of the same schools. I remember seeing your name next to my interview date. I hope we both hear some good news :luck:

Was it U of R tinkerbelle? I actually think we might've been there on the same day?? I'd LOVE to get some good news from them!!

Yup, that's the school! It'll be 4 weeks on Monday... I saw on the acceptance thread that they call people they accept. Gosh, I'm so nervous. I really liked Rochester 🙂

I don't want to turn this into a Rochester thread, but Rochester told our group of applicants (Oct. 11th) that we wouldn't hear anything until 8 weeks post interview. You were told 4 weeks?

Hi funshine 🙂

Here's why I really like Rochester:

I loved the way their curriculum is set up. You only have 2 hours of lecture a day. The rest of the time you have small group stuff or lab. You have a PBL sessions once a week (which is great for finguring out the big picture). A lot of schools only have a few PBL sessions for a course (like 3 for the whole block). Plus, you take the shelf exams (i think that's waht they are called) for some of the blocks... it's a good preparation for the boards and getting used to board-style questions.

You can go abroad multiple times to do an elective or to do research. This was a huge plus since I really want to apply all this public health stuff I learned last year. Plus, you can apply for funding.

They have a standardized patient program (although a bunch of schools have standardized patients now). I think Rochester gives you great clinical training and really tries to produce caring physicians that look at the whole patient. Their curriculum is very touchy-feely. Anyone who went to Hopkins and volunteered as a counselor will understand what I mean when I say their curriculum is very APTT-ish. They want you to ask your patients those silly "how do you feel" questions and really LISTEN to your patients.

I also really liked the students. They seemed really fun and sweet and intelligent. I could totally see myself hanging out with these people.

The only cons are that you must have a car to get around and that there are no on-campus dorms (although i suppose the white coat ghetto is kinda like dorms... i think tons of students live there and it's only 5 minutes away from campus).

I really liked the area. It's beautiful. They have tons of festivals (like a lilac festival or something). Plus I LOVE those old style houses. I think they are called Victorian. At any rate, I thought some of the houses were gorgeous and I'd love to live in a place like that.

Too bad out of state tuition is going to be a killer. However, I've heard tons of people get waitlisted. So I'm not expecting an acceptance 🙁 But we'll see.

Another thing I should mention: the Admissions people are awesome. I interviewed with the Dean of Admissions and he actually took the time to e-mail someone in the obgyn department so I could ask the department director questions. Then the Infertility Director actually took the time to CALL ME and talk to me about their infertility program. It was awesome. This school really cares about it's students and does a lot of little things to make their students feel special.

yeah.... i REALLY liked Rochester..... PM me if you have any questions 🙂

Good luck to ALL of you. :luck:

Well, technically, I think they said 4-6 weeks. But definitely not 8 weeks. I interviewed October 4th, so the hear-back time should be the same since our interviews were so close together.

Hmmm.... I suppose I shouldn't feel too bad if I don't hear anything within four weeks..... If I actually call the school and ask, I'll post their response.

DGhiker, you interviewed with me. Didn't they say 4-6 weeks??

Yikes. Well, good luck to all of us :luck: :luck:

P.S. Plus, I think VFrank interviewed at the end of September, and she (he?) heard back Oct 20. So it's about 4 weeks. Although she has AWESOME stats... so maybe that's why she heard back so quickly

I'll bump this for good luck to everyone. With the exception of the non-rolling schools (on the other list), hope the first week of November is a good one. ::luck::

Hey, I'm hoping to hear something from EVMS in ~ two weeks. 😀

Where the heck is Downstate? It was my first interview in late September and I should be hearing soon. Do the acceptances and rejection/waitlist go out at the same time? Anyone know? One 1 person on official acceptance thread has received good news.

Hear! Hear!

I'm also in limbo! I'm hoping to have two replies this week.

Good luck to all of us! :luck: :luck:

I came away with some mixed messages that day. I think the really nice secretary (oh god! I can't remember her name, I feel terrible..) told me ~8 weeks, but then the students that ate luch with us and took us on part of the tour said a shorter period of time. I remember one of them saying she knew in October she was in. So I really didn't know what to expect, but when I saw VFrank's news, I started getting nervous about hearing soon. But maybe we shouldn't go by his/her situation because of the stellar stats. Still, that's not going to keep me from hovering over my phone at work.... 🙂

Cool. When did you interview? Did we meet? :meanie:

I interviewed 10/15 (I don't think we met, all the dudes in my interview group were still in undergrad, in fact one of them got freaked out b/c he realized he graduated high school the same year I graduated from college)

...so did you like EVMS? Would you attend it? 🙂

I'm hoping to hear from MCW and Jefferson this week. 🙂

I interviewed at Rochester on 10/25...I am still waiting for a response too. But they told us 8weeks. . . which seems like FOREVER!

Darn it. Stupid me must have heard wrong. I don't know why I thought it was 4 weeks. Anyways. I'm on week 5 or 6 or something. I hate the wait 😡

:luck: to all!

I just wish they wouldn't announce a time-line if they anticipated not keeping it! I was told 2 weeks after the interview and for two schools now its been over a month 😡 ! It just fuels the OC/neurotic'ness of applicants. On the plus note, my workouts have benefited from all of this excess anxious energy 😀

Take care all

I know. Schools should be totally up front and clear when telling applicants how long they have to wait to hear a decision. Given the fact that U of R seems less than clear about that at this point (some of us think 4 weeks, others 8), the waiting is starting to drive me nuts! Plus, I've only gotten waitlists so far and for both of those schools, the longer I had to wait to hear, the worse the news turned out to be.

But now I'm going to try and think positively, and *will* good news to come my way from them! I hope everyone on this thread waiting on U of R will hear good news!

sending some good vibes to everyone waiting to hear this week (especially those waiting for U of R... 'cause it's a great school and I know why you all are so excited about it!!)

good vibes: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 😀

good luck all!!
