These concerns are to ANY past, current or graduating USN students.

Hi, I got accepted back in Nov and have been very excited, however the more I read and researched about the school the more nervous I’m becoming. I got accepted to other schools, like Denver, OSU and UIC but chose USN for many reasons, including convenience, location, people I met were great, the idea of a 3 yr program rocks, and not to mention the block program is my dream type program (especially, when most of the “rich” or “affluent” type high schools like in Palos Verdes, CA operate on a block program for a reason, but this is my personal preference).

What’s keeping me awake at night….
Here’s a few problems that I hope someone would be kind enough to address:

  • I chose to enroll in the PharmD/MBA program: If you are in this program, do you feel that it is worth giving up part of your rotation or block? Experiences, regrets?
  • Do you feel that because it’s a 3 yr program (re: PharmD/MBA) that maybe you didn’t receive enough experience to prepare yourself to be a Pharmacist?
  • If you are not in the program, what have you heard?

Another concern I have is:

I have always thought of doing a residency after 3 years (one of my reasons for a 3 yr prgm, or else I’ll spend 5 yrs practically in school).
I’ve been trying to research information on how USN support students who are interested in residencies, but have not had much success.

If you are a current or graduated USN Pharmacy student, could you shed some light on how USN supports student’s interested in residency? I understand that I might be a bit of an eager beaver, but as far as I know, obtaining a residency is difficult and not only depends on GPA, but EC’s, maybe research, published and the list goes on, then I have to be “matched,” many places emphasize on experience.

  • So, does USN provide some kind of seminars to support students interested in residencies? If so, how? If not, where can a student get information?
  • Is there any kind of support for students interested in residencies? How do you feel about the hospital or clinical rotations (this is important, because experience is on the top of all residency’s list)?
  • If you feel that USN lacks in hospital rotation, is there anything a student can do, anything?

If anyone is a current resident from USN, could you please put your two cents in about this topic, I’m very interested in how or if USN helped you obtain a residency.

Thank you so much if you replied.🙂

I'm assuming you are now a P1 at USN. Have you found the answers to your questions? I'd be very interested. Thanks!
