To call or not to call?

For those schools that ask applicants not to call to check on status, what do you think about calling them anyway? Just curious because I've noticed that people in this forum have been calling schools to check on their status (statusus, stati? 🙂 ). My apps were complete in early-mid October.

What I really want to do is call them a la Jerky Boys or Crank Yankers just for some vindication for all the waiting .

If they specifically said don't call, then I wouldn't call. You could always email.

If you must call, you could have a friend call first with a made up name and AMCAS ID#. If the office is nice and seems to make an effort to look up the fictional file, it may be safe to call back at a later time with your real info. If your friend gets his/her head bitten off you'll know to leave it alone...
