This thread is not intended to be another what are my chances, here are my stats. I just want to get some opinions. I am applying EDP to my state school. I have a 32 O and a 3.8 GPA with a 3.88 BPCM GPA. I have always wanted to attend this school which makes sense considering thats where I am applying EDP. I wanted to know how fellow SDNers felt about EDP? Do you all feel the pros out weigh the cons if the applicant is competitive and committed to that school? Thanks for the input.

From what ADCOMs have told me, they accept people early decision if they feel that they would eventually accept the person anyways. Your scores are definitely competitive, so if this is your dream school I'd say go for it!

Pros
1. Your chances are better if you are above their average GPA and MCAT scores because they won't know what the rest of the applicant pool is like (which is getting more competitive each year).
2. You'll know far ahead of time if and where you'll be going to medical school. This means less stress, and will probably add a year to your lifespan.*
3. You'll save tons of $$$

Cons
1. You'll be restricted to that one medical school during the regular application process time-frame, and if they end up not accepting you you'll be a little tardy in getting applications to other schools. Make sure you are prepared to apply to other schools just in case.

Only apply early decision if you are a good fit for the school, your GPA and MCAT are competitive, your ECs fit in with the school's mission, and this is truly where you want to goto school. :luck:

*Note: the application process on the surface doesn't look all that bad, but it takes a significant toll on you over the 9+ months. It can be very tiring and stressful, to say the least.

I have also been told by adcoms that if they feel as though they would accept you in the long run, they will go ahead and accept you EDP. Thanks for the info.

I honestly see little point in an EDP. The sheer risk of being screwed over if you don't get in and also be SUPER late in applying outweighs any benefits gained from knowing your status Oct. 1st. The thing is that you might find a school better than the one you're looking at or discover that the school you like isn't what you pictured it to be after your interview.

I'd throw in my towel with the rest of the apps, I'm sure that it stands out on its own anyway! 👍

I applied EDP and it has made my life less stressful... I still have friends questioning their futures as to where they want to go... I have been able to find finacial aid, housing, and a plan for my family over the nine months since I have found out I was acceptted. If LSU is the place for you, I think you do EDP... You def have the stats.... Good luck!👍

I think you're competitive at LSU-NO and should do it if that's where you really went to go.

A girl I know who goes there had a similar GPA but her MCAT was below 30. She may have been URM though.. not sure if she claimed it or not. I don't think she's hispanic, but she looks like it..

Do it if you feel that you have a solid application. Good luck!

I'm also applying EDP at my state school. My MCAT is just one point higher than the one they recommend and my gpa is quite a bit higher so *hopefully* it will all go smoothly. If it's the school for you and you're pretty sure you would be a competitive applicant, then I say go for it. You sound very competitive!

Good luck!

Thanks to all who replied. I always welcome opinions of fellow SDNers. I also hope this answers anyone who has questions about EDP.
