I have an interview coming up at CCOM and I'm flying in to Chicago (O'Hare). So far, my plan is to stay somewhere downtown (my sister is coming with me and she wants to have a look-around).

My question is, how do I get from downtown Chi to the Downer's Grove campus without having to rent a car since I'm unfortunately not a big-city driver unfortunately. Taxi cabs, some form of mass transportation? Any help would be appreciated 🙂

I would rent a car. Cab fare from downtown to Downers Grove will run you in the $50 range each way especially if going in rush hour. You could take the Metra from Union Station to Downers Grove but would need a way to get from the station to the school, and then at the end of the day from the school back to the station. If you rent a car it's a pretty direct drive west on the Eisenhower. Unfortunately the El only goes as far west as Forest Park, so if you got out there you'd still need a cab for the rest of the way.

agreed 👍 its always hard going to the burbs from the city b/c even if you took the Metra u still need a car/cab to get from the station to get anywhere..cabs are pretty infrequent in the suburbs so you'd have to call in advance. maybe you could stay in a hotel near ccom and then go downtown after your interview? if u do stay downtown, give yourself an 1 1/2 hrs for traffic to be on time. good luck!🙂

I've driven downtown chicago and a little stressful but since you have your sister, you should be just fine navigating about. I get freaked out with city driving too and chicago was alright. G'luck on your interview! :luck:

Driving around downtown is horrible in Chicago during rush hour. I have lived here all of my life and used to work downtown. Now with the Dan Ryan under construction it has a slight evvect on the E-ways connected to it(sometimes). There really isn't a way around that. I would say get a hotel around Downers Grove like someone else mentioned. Then you could just take your rental car downtown or maybe the train and do whatever. Not to mention every hotel downtown is God awfully expensive. If it isn't you dont wanna stay there. Good Luck at your interview and good luck getting around. 😳
