So, I am on Christmas break and are many of you. I really want to have a break from studying, but I know that the MCAT is right around the corner. I will be taking a review course offered at my school. Do you think I should study during break or what? What could I possibly do? What is the best preparation for verbal? Thanks.

well i think i used that as a scare tactic when i was in college and thiking bout when i should start to study for exams and such. but for the mcat it's really up to u. studying for it can easily burn u out so maybe it is better to relax during the break and start hardcore afterwards, or maybe not. u still have 4 months left so that's a long time. just follow yer instincts

The way I look at it is//// I am registered to take the Kaplan class in January...why not use this time to study some other materials besides Kaplan, so that I can have a taste of more than one flavor(right now, I am studying EK)

Seriously, how much study time do y'all think is adequate if I were to take the MCAT in August?? Is it better to go slow and work up to a more intense study schedule or do you think I should start 3 months out and do it full time (6-8 hours per day)??

I think going slow is better, than studying long hours. The longer hours you study, the less material you retain, therefore, it is probably better to study less hours for more days, than more hours for less days

I would recommend that you start practicing VERBAL NOW!!!!

As for studying, start studying now. MCATs is not about memorization (okay perhaps 10 percent of it is) but the rest is application, you must UNDERSTAND the background material in order to apply it.

Good Luck.

How should I go about prepping for verbal now? I'll save the science for the review course.

Yea, start verbal now if not sooner. I'd suggest doing practice passages now without a timer. Just make yourself find the right answer and then think about how you found that answer. Also, start reading random articles about stuff you don't usually read about, maybe in Atlantic Monthly or the New Yorker. Just anything to make your brain look at new material.
