Ah, I miss my Uncle Panda. Gotta ask though since it has been awhile since he wrote anything -- does he know that his blog site is now being used to sell crappy Elvis calendars and other junk? If someone knows how to get ahold of him they might want to fill him in.... and if it's him selling Elvis calendars, we might want to send someone over for a welfare check....

wow, this guy's writing is impeccable. If I didn't know better, I'd have thought he was formally trained. I'd read him over honest Abe (Varghese) (no offense, Varg, I enjoy your writing too...to a certain degree). I highly recommend this site. too bad he stopped blogging. And too bad he doesn't give us the priviledge of viewing some sort of bio.

I'll bet he's on Birdstrike's hockey team.

Yup, I've read every single blog entry of his. His writing is great. I believe he scored a 15 on MCAT verbal, so he seems to have a talent in that arena.

From what I recall someone was trying to drag his private life on the forum and that was the last mention I heard. Old generals don't die, they just fade away.

My guess is he got outed and blogs under a different avatar (but not this one). Or maybe he got pushed onto train tracks somewhere and was never seen again (in one piece). Or maybe he lost the fire in his belly required to repeatedly bear his soul for free online anonymously to the world, written at a level worth reading. Oral maybe he just got happy.

LOL

I haven't really read much, or anything this Panda Bear guy wrote, but it is kinda funny his site still picks up enough hits that hackers found it worthwhile to hack his site and start hawking Elvis products, deer antler steroids and foot-massage balls.

I used to read it - great stuff. I am Reading the OP link it seems as if he enlisted in the marines post Vietnam, and which I guess would be in the late 70s. That probably means he is around 60 now... Hopefully comfortably retired and watching this comedy of errors from a hammock in the Caribbean.

I don't think he's that old yet.

No way. He went to med school at 34-35 and did two intern years. He originally matched into family med and then re-applied to EM. He's early- to mid-40s.

No, he wasn't outed. He just started posting less and less. He had a second username here - melanoluca or something - and he posted for a bit, but it all just tapered off gradually. He said he spent too much time and effort writing that blog, and his personal life suffered for it. Plus, he did lose the fire in his belly. He actually kind of liked being a senior resident and attending, so there wasn't nearly as much to say. "Went to work. Wasn't bad. Came home."

Hey, I know Bill Brasky!

Sorry. That popped in my head while reading this for some reason.

*Edit* I read some of Pandas stuff back when I was applying to medical school and it really spoke to me since we had some similarities (both former combat arms guys who did a stint in the sandbox before applying to Med School). I am really appreciative that he has made himself available to us all. That can't be easy.

All the good medical bloggers are gone (except DrWhitecoat). It's a lost art.

He was most definitely outed. This topic actually came up recently. His wife came on the site and posted several things about how this site was ruining his marriage. I believe he subsequently got divorced.
