to those who applied 2007 cycle.. any advice for the 2008 cycle?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
apply early and just have everything ready.... LORs etc.....

The first thing I did once the spring semester finished, I went to my register's office to have them forward my transcripts as soon as popssible, oh and have that personal statement done very quickly!

Before you submit your application re-read ewvery section about three times!
Once you are logged in under in AADSAS, click the "Instructions" tab and scroll to the bottom and look for "Dental School Supplemental Information" because every school has a different process with respect to supplemental information, (some send you a secondary and some schools require that you send the processing fee w/o asking you directly).

If you don't understand what to do in a certain section of the application call them and ask! I had 4 transcripts and I was totally lost with that...Also, make sure that you have a strong personal statement..I know its early for you, but you can start writing it now so it would be perfect by the time you submit it..BTW last year I had a lot of fear from the application process- and today I can tell you thats its really not that bad. Most of the steps are very straight forward...best advice- don’t go on SDN you’ll only freak out lol
G-luck

yeah i would like to to say that the people on SDN are not the general application pool....these are the people that will end up with multiple acceptances so dont feel inadequate just do your best you will be fine.....getting in is easier than you think

so ive noticed. whenever i see "22/23/20... 3.5 gpa..do i have a chance still?" post.. i start to freak out.

not too worried about my gpa (currently 3.7) just the DATS is whats freaking me out. ESP. wen i read that one post that asked if there was a correlation between SAT scores and DATs. and there SOMEWHAT was. people on sdn had like 1300 SAT scores. jeez. i just barely made 1050.

dont worry about what goes on here...this site should be only used if you have to ask questions during the application process, you should not at any time compare yourself to the people on this site or on predents.com....they are both very helpful but they will make you a nervous wreck

👍 I would reinforce everything said here, ESPECIALLY the part about transcripts. It can take weeks once your transcript is submitted for it to be verified and weeks more before it is sent. From the moment you send a request for a transcript before the packets are sent to designations is sent can be up to 6-10 weeks (but much faster if you do it early in the cycle).

In my case, I requested transcripts 8/18, submitted 8/28, actually sent: 9/28.

Never forget that AADSAS is the most incompetent organization you may have ever encountered. A perfect example of the inefficiency of monopolies.

i think i read in a previous post, not to send transcripts until the cycle officially opens..
but yes.. as soon as i finish my last final this upcoming semester.. i will somehow make it to the registrar's office after probably not sleeping for days and requesting to mail the transcripts.
