I have a quick question for some that may have been in my position before or are currently in my position. I'm going into my junior year this fall and have met with my premed adviser and she is advising me to either take a gap year or drag out my undergrad. Reason being, I will be taking Ochem 1 this semester and Ochem 2 in the spring semester which I will finish just before it would be time to take the MCAT. My issue is I wont have biochem completed. So my question is should I wait and take biochem and then take the MCAT or just take it this upcoming cycle. Thanks in advance!

Can you take biochem instead of orgo II in the spring and then take orgo II the following fall? I never took biochem so I don't know its relationship to orgo II at the average university but I know some med schools are moving to replace the orgo II requirement with biochem.

Either way I still think the best option is to wait a year, but just throwing this out there.

Some schools let you take biochem without orgo 2 and possibly even without orgo 1 (like my school). Biochem is wayyy more important for the new mcat than orgo. If this is the absolute only reason why you'd need to take a gap year, I'd suggest finding a way to do what I said.

I personally thought orgo 2 really helped for biochem. It's best to do orgo 2, then biochem and then the MCAT, even if that means a gap year is necessary

Some schools don't require orgo 2. Take biochem. You can literally self study orgo 2 enough for the MCAT. I saw very little, if any, organic anyway
