If you want to you show your interest in a particular med school, who do you need to talk to? I can't seem to get past the secretary in many schools when I call and I want to talk to individuals that have a say in the admissions. Do I ask for the Dean of Admissions? Do I ask for someone on the admissions com? Do I ask for my interviewer? When I call, I don't know who to ask for so I always end up talking to the secretary, who either can't say or won't say anything.

Also, if you're sending a Letter of Intent, to whom do you send it to? Interviewer or Dean of Admissions??

Thanks for your help all!

General opinion seems to think that letters of intent are a waste of time.

I wouldn't say this at all. In fact, for some schools, if you are on the waitlist and write a loi, you are "bumped to the top" (these are the words of a student member of an admissions committee at a top ten school). sure, it may not always be a guaranteed admissions-booster, but it is nevertheless a powerful way to demonstrate that a school is your #1 choice. being waitlisted shouldn't be - and isn't always - a passive process.

as for who to address the letter to...hmm..... i haven't sent any myself, but it seems logical that you would contact your interviewer (arguably you have all his/her contact info). to be safe you could also address one to the dean of admissions, c/o of the admissions office. the worst they can do is just bury it, unread, in your file. the best that can happen is that your interviewer/the dean/someone important will actually read the letter and look more favorably upon your candidacy. definitely don't call; it's better to put this sort of thing in writing.

good luck!
