I'm thinking of quitting my job at the pharmacy to work at this Acupuncture clinic just because I don't like the people at the pharmacy while I really love the friendly people at the acupuncture place. Plus, I get to make more money and more hours at the ACupuncture. However, I'll need a recommendation from a pharmacist real soon so i'm kind of hesitate about this. My other pharmacist, whom left the store a few months ago because he also hates it here, told me that it is not worth it to work at a place where you hate. But then, I hate jumping from job to job. And it's so hard to find a job in the pharmacy. I guess i'm hanging on to this job because I'm afraid I can't find another job at the pharmacy. Walgreen suxs! OH well, my question is, is it wise for me to quit my job and get a job at acupuncture (outside my major)?

As long as you leave on good terms there is no reason why you can't get a LOR from the pharmacist after you quit. If it's the pharmacist you have a problem with who's to say he/she would write you a good letter even if you stay. How about the pharmacist who recently left? Can you keep in touch with that person and request the LOR when you need it? DO NOT work in an environment that makes you miserable. It's just going to cause you added stress and it's unnecessary.
You could always take the acupuncture job and try to shadow a pharmacist every other weekend or something. Just enough to develop a relationship so that you can get your letter. Good luck!

I know how you feel. I was in the same situation and kinda did the same thing. I worked in a pharmacy for 4 years and HATED it the last year I was there. I ended up taking a summer research position in Alabama. I knew that if I took the internship in AL I wouldn't be able to go back to the pharmacy, but I really didn't care. Looking back I don't regret my decision. I ended up gaining valuable research experience but I do wish I had a LOR from one of the pharmacists I worked with. My problem is that all the good pharmacists that I liked have left the pharmacy, so I don't (and will never have) a letter from a pharmacist, even though I worked there for 4 years. As long as you have some pharmacy experience you'll be fine. I think schools just want to make sure that you've experienced first-hand what its like to work in a pharmacy. Quit your miserable job and do something you like! 😀
