The injury you're thinking of is the so-called "unhappy triad". Commonly occurs in football and rugby players when a force from the lateral side of the knee injures the aforementioned structures. If you follow professional football, think of the injury Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings RB) suffered last year.
