Hey everyone! I have a ton of tiny questions I was hoping to get answered about dental school on this forum.
First off, I'll be a junior this fall. My overall GPA is a little over a 3.0, I changed my major from english to exercise science about a year ago, so I still haven't taken very many science classes..I failed bio 1 when I took it as dual enrollment in high school, and failed it again when I took it in college. When I finally passed it, I got a B+. So, my science GPA is terrible, but hopefully I'll be able to bring it up a lot this year. I was still hoping to apply for dental school next year. I'll be taking Orgo II next summer and Physics II, and leave Biochem for the fall of 2009. I plan on graduating in Spring of 2010.
Should I still apply this time next year? or hold off a year?
I've started studying for the DATs and I think I'll be good on the bio and chem sections (don't really know about organic or math yet since I haven't taken much math and zero ochem).
If I submit my application to AADSAS next May, could I send in my summer transcripts and have them still count towards my applicant GPA?
When you take the DAT more than once, is that frowned upon, are the scores averaged?
Some other facts about me that I think might help my application: I'm very active in my schools pre-dental society, I've shadowed and volunteered as an assistant for the county. I also participate in WE CARE, where once a month, dentists from around our county give free dental work to those who cannot afford it, usually small children; I help set that up and assist there as well. I have worked at a dental office as an assistant for about 7 months and will hopefully continue to work there for the next year or so. I really want to be a dentist, there is absolutely nothing else I want to do, and I'll try for as long as I need to in order to get in. I'm willing to go to any dental school that accepts me but my top choices are Nova and BU because they're close to family but not TOO close. lol.
Thanks for your advice/criticism/answering my questions. I really appreciate it!
Thank you so much in advance
