I just started my rotations, after just regaining my footing academically. I met a girl and we started dating but she has aspects that distracted me, for example she's a single mom and it was long distant.

I decided to take a break from the relationship after I felt that my first rotation went kind of shaky. I let her know that this may happen earlier. She was angry but we kept in contact.

I still feel a bit guilty for being selfish but noone else will take of me except for me. I decide not to start any relationship until I am rock solid with school (sure that I will finish) or until I finish.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I understand what you are saying (especially since it is long distance), but do not let medicine become your life. It is very easy to say that you don't have time for significant others, hobbies, personal time, etc during rotations and especially during residency. It is nice to have someone/something who can take your mind off school and be there when you have had a sh**ty day.

Cha-Ching!

Dont marry!

you just need to find someone else who is too busy for a relationship . . . my bf and i are both med students, but are half way across the country from one another. we talk a few times a week, and see each other every 2 mo or so . . . that would probably not be enough for someone whose life was not as stressful as ours, but it works out perfectly for us. at least for now 🙄

Don't let it rule your life. It's simply not worth it. When you're crawling the floors on your knees after working 16 hours in some ****ty hospital looking for somebody's hernia to repair, you'll appreciate someone that you can come home to.
