It worked out at the last minute that I am doing a sub-I in my specialty of choice right now, and I don't seem to have time/energy/etc to finish my application, which I'd already procrastinated on (it took me a long time to decide on a specialty). I have to finish out this month of a sub-I, but I'm getting more worn out as is usual for me...I don't quite know how it's going to work, but somehow it has too. Right now I hardly have energy to make it to the hospital in the morning after multiple times of hitting the snooze button...similar problem once I get out of the hospital in the evening too. So what to do?! Anybody else down to the wire like this?

I totally can relate to the feeling of being drained and exhausted. However, turning in your application is much more important than your current rotation. You do not want to end up in the scramble. It doesnt take more than a few hours to complete. Compared to the thousands of hours you've put to get where you are, it's a piece of cake. Stop procrastinating, only you can do this!🙂👍

You must have (at least ) 1 day off per week, no matter how grueling the rotation is. You should definitely check the deadlines for the programs you are applying to, and get your app in before this; some programs are probably ok if you don't have your last LOR in (if you are planning on getting an LOR from this rotation) but I'm not sure they'd be cool without the CV/CAF or PS.

That's funny. You have the time to kill on SDN, but not to work on your application. That's very funny.

i gotta say, when i act like this i am making the wrong decision... whether it's your chosen field, or medicine as a whole (sorry, but you do say you always get like this), being exhausted at the end of the day and hitting snooze a dozen times = unhappy until proven otherwise (r/o SEVERELY overworked for a long period of time).

i refuse to let myself hit snooze on days i know i'll be in clinic, and the rest of the time i roll out of bed just fine, i'm heading to a CC fellowship one day w/out doubt.

A lot of programs have early november as the deadline for applications, If I were you I would be working more on the application than on the rotation.

I was thinking the same thing. The original poster might be depressed, and that's ok, we all feel like that at some point or another. But, you are practically at the finish line!! Don't stop, gather what energy you have left and focus. You'll get through this too. 👍

It just takes 5 min to post for tips here, vs hours trying to figure out the application, which often seems overwhelming when I'm so tired. I don't see quite the same degree of irony.

What is the wrong decision? hitting the snooze button? I may be getting a little unhappy, though, mainly because I'm always so tired and wondering if I can do this (as I posted earlier, I found out I have lupus, which is now pretty well-controlled and can't be used as a total cop-out, but I still do really start dragging after an overnight call or two). I even start to wonder how safe it is to go in in the morning when my brain is in such a fog...I just make sure to read my orders twice or 3 times, and someone else still has to sign them anyway.

Today I'm home, though, so I'll head off to work on that application.

It takes more time to recheck SDN for replies and look through and read other threads. Yes, just posting may take 5 minutes, but even those could be spent filling out an application.

Yeah, I gotta say....I'm sorry for everything you're going through. But with the time wasted posting on these boards, you really could be almost finished by now. Filling out my ERAS application took an hour, tops. Yes, I type fast, but it really isn't that overwhelming when you finally get down to working on it. If you have the day off, knock it out today in a few hours, then get some more sleep. I swear, it's do-able!! Good luck. 👍
