I ended up in the hospital getting IV fluids and zofran the day before the exam, and like an absolute idiot I ended up deciding to take the test the next day anyway🙄
That whole day is a little fuzzy, because I was still pretty sick. But I finished all of step 1 in 3 hours.

Does anyone know someone who took the test that fast and ended up doing OK?

Even stories like "I had a friend who knew someone who knew someone who did OK....." might be encouraging at ths point....

i've had friends take it in 5 hrs.

one said that he did it in 4 hrs and 45mins.

they all said they did well or ok.

Whoa, isn't it supposed to take 8 hours? 😕😕😕

(Yeah, humor the nice pre-med, please 😉)

i will be in your league, i finish Uworld questions real quick, i think ill take the test within 4-5hrs MAX i know its bad, im not trying to break a record i just read fast and answer quick.

If I went that fast and end up getting less than 280, I would shoot myself in the head.
Obviously there were questions you did not know.

With 1/2hr left and 10 questions you are not sure about , how do you move on to the next block????
It simply won't impress the chick sitting next to you, trust me on that.

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my original post: I wasn't trying to rush... I was sick and confused and was genuinely surprised when the screen came up saying that I had finished all of the sections of the test...

I'm certainly not trying to impress anyone, and anyone who would be impressed by someone taking the exam fast is stupid... You get points for correct answers, not how much time is left on the clock when you finish.

After cramming for 4-6 weeks straight and answering thousands of practice questions, I learned that if I didn't know the answer within about 10 seconds after reading the question I wouldn't get it period.

A few questions you can read and feel "stupider" after having read the question.......they are that hard.

I actually went back to one question that confused me. I spent another 10 minutes on it at the end........nothing came to me.

Some people need time to process and think about the question. Some either know it or they don't.

Maybe you could have the test voided due to medical reasons? Not sure how receptive the NBME would be to such a request. It doesn't seem like you were in the right state of mind.

I would tend to think that they wouldn't be receptive, because technically I had the opportunity to either postpone the test or void it at the end of the day (at least I think you can do that--- though maybe you have to pay the 500 dollars again??) I went ahead and took it hoping that part of the nausea was just nerves, and in my desperate desire just to finish the thing before I started vomiting again, the idea of doing the latter didn't even occur to me... If I chose to take the test that day and not void it at the end, I should be responsible for the resuls, even though I'm really sad about it🙁
