I submitted AMCAS back in June but decided I couldnt afford to also apply osteopathic. I recently came into some money and would like to apply DO now but I'm wondering if I'm too late?? Anyone know if I'd be at a disadvantage applying right now??😕

No, it's not late because there are a lot of August MCAT takers. If you have everything now, you're still early in the game.

Thanks so much! I love SDN: you can get help at 3am 🙂 I'm really excite about applying but I'll have double the stress 🙁 Looking forward to hanging out over here in pre-osteo 👍

So is it true that most of the SDNers are early appliers, and that for the most part, people do send in primaries in September? 😳

Welcome MiesVanDerMom! I post on both boards, but I think that the pre-osteo board is more friendly.

I sent my primary in november.. and I have an anatomy test on wednesday, so no it is not too late.

it sure seems that way. it makes me wonder if life at an allo school is more cut-throat than at an osteo school 😕 maybe i should just avoid schools with trolls 😉

I didn't apply to the school I ultimately chose until January, so you aren't even close to being late. Remember, some schools will be interviewing until March and April.

it's good to hear because over on pre-allo they're telling everyone they're an 8 on a scale of 1-10 for lateness. Everything about this DO application process is less excruciating than the MD one. well, except for the extra pre-reqs! it prevents me from being able to apply several DO schools I was interested in. I'm just happy I'm not too late. I sent in transcript requests yesterday, so hopefully I'll be complete in a few weeks. I have SIX😱 transcripts to get in, so it takes a while!

I'm not sure what extra pre-reqs you are talking about (maybe psych?) if you are interested in a school apply anyway. DO schools are much more lenient about a missing psych course or something. Touro - MI requires 2 psych and I only had 1 but they admitted me anyway and didn't care as far as i know.

organic or bio would probably be a different story, but you must have taken those at minimum anyway. lots of the "rules" in the application process are subjective and if you are nice enough the admissions people can help you out sometimes.

hmm, I hope you're right. NECOM requires Biochem in addition to the orgo chem and NJ requires 16 credits (instead of 8) of bio. Ohio requires "upper level courses" above the standard pre-reqs. It wouldn't hurt for me to email them I suppose and see what they say.👍 thanks for the info!

I applied in Feb 2006 for this year's class and it worked out well for me. I had good reasons for applying late, and I'm so happy I didn't wait for the next application cycle. Your stats look good so I would absolutely apply now!

I'm editing to say that I obviously would recommend applying as soon as humanly possible -- I was very lucky to get in after applying so late, and it may have helped that I had above average stats and a strong desire to be a DO (didn't apply MD).

I also wondered about the behavioral science requirement. Call the schools about the pre-reqs before you rule them out. A couple of schools told me they would carefully dig through my transcripts to find something that fulfilled them. Good luck to you.
