Hi guys,

I submitted applications for a couple of SMPs but was recently rejected. I was planning on hearing back from those before sending out the rest of my SMP and Postbacc apps. Unfortunately, the responses were delayed and I foolishly did not send out the remaining apps.

Is it too late to apply? I know that some programs (like NYMC), have strict deadlines, and I'm concerned about gaining admission (especially since people started applying really early this year). Does anyone know any schools that have traditionally later deadlines that I could still send apps to?

Did you apply to Tufts MBS already? I believe their deadline is July 15th. I think Penn special science program is also July 15th.

And, what leads you to think that? I didn't gather that. You don't need their stats you can just offer up an SMP you know with a later deadline.

Not really. A lot of people come to this forum thinking they can do their prereqs in an SMP. People think an SMP is a traditional masters. People think a postbac means all kinds of things. People think they can skip the MCAT if they do an SMP, whatever they think an SMP is. All this despite having FAQs and stickies and lists and incredibly detailed and helpful historical conversations just a few wee small clicks away.

Also, there are only about 14 or so SMPs. And even if you run the whole list of AAMC's postbac list, there are what, 100 programs? Visiting the web pages of 14 to 100 web pages to find info does not at all seem like too much to ask, if you want to make sure you're not missing something. If somebody is asking "did I miss anything" after reporting where they've looked, that's great.

Meanwhile, anytime somebody wants to volunteer to update/upgrade the lists I spent years building, they're welcome to do so.

Because if the OP knew what the difference was then if they got rejected this cycle for SMPs, they wouldn't be applying to "post-bacs"...

+1 to what midlife said about most ppl being generally clueless upon arrival here. I was too i must admit, but thats why you read, you ask, you do research before you waste $$$$ in app fees.

And stats are important to help figure out whether the OP needs an SMP, a post-bac for the pre-reqs, or would be better suited doing an MPH/MS Nutrition/something else.

Loyola Stritch SOM is starting a postbac at the med school this year. They are trying to get enough qualified applicants to run the program since it's brand new. It will be at the med school, taught by med school profs. Stritch is a good school and Loyola's MAMS program at the grad school is very competitive so the new program should be great! To apply to BU MAMS.
They actually don't have a deadline, and will accept students all the way until their classes start.
The Tufts deadline is 7/15, so you have some time left for that program too.
Send your apps out tomorrow!
You won't need your recs immediately, but make sure they have your transcripts, and the online application along with your MCAT scores ASAP.
As long as they have those they are willing to wait a bit for recs.

Edit: I submitted my apps a month ago. Heard back from U Cinci, and BU. Was waiting for Tufts and Georgetown, but got accepted to BU so I'm just going to go there. Good luck mate.

I'm interested as well...not just for SMP's, but grad programs as well (that have success sending their students to med school I mean). Moreso, what are some programs that do winter/spring admissions?

Mississippi College still has apps open (until August 10)..they also accept for the spring.
