I'm applying this cycle for MD, but decided to maybe apply DO also. But I'm wondering if it is worth doing as it is August already. I would need two transcripts sent in, one of which I know will take about 3-4 weeks. My letters of rec are no problem as they are all in interfolio. And then there is the time to get verified, get secondaries, submit them etc etc. Any thoughts/suggestions/advice?

Your personal stats would play a large role in helping you make this decision. If you are above average for DO statistically and are using it mostly as a safety then I'm sure you could still apply at this point in the cycle.

Not too late, DO schools run on a slightly later schedule then MD schools. Just submit everything as soon as you can.

If you are at or above 3.5/3.5/27 you should apply. If not, it's probably too late.

It's not too late... Call schools and ask. They have told me that it's getting late but by no means will ruin your chances...

Maybe they just want your money. The OP said his transcript could take up to 4 weeks to get in. That means he won't be verified for 8 weeks or more. October verification is pretty late.

Yup you are definitely right...

Listen, I know two people who applied to UCSF in November with great EC and 3.8 gpas but 28 mcat and out of state yet still got interviews (one got accepted)... Every premed advisor and school I have talked to has said late August early September is fine.

Also interesting, one of my close friends is going to a top MD school in Texas and in her interview the professor said its always a pleasure to interview the late cycle applicants because they usually aren't the archetypal antisocial premeds.

Anyway, I'm applying later this week, taking the mcat next week. My ECs are great, I'm non trad with As in post-bach, my gpas are decent (c3.15 & sc3.61) and have been averaging a 30 on my practice Mcats.

Anywho, I wish everyone the best this cycle!

The difference here is that you will be verified about a month earlier than the OP. Verified in September is fine. Verified in October is different.
