Wow. What's your GPA? You don't need to give up, there is always a way - but, you will really have to consider if dentistry is right for you.

So, you already have your degree? I actually don't know what advice to give. Good luck.

pretty low...trust me im surprised i got this degree...and no its way way below 3.0 and retook a lot of my classes not realizing that they would average my grades...can i just do a mba

Is you GPA around 2.5? We've seen people with GPAs in the range of 2.0-2.5.
Your best bet is to take courses as a nondegree student because no program at this point will be willing to take you (postbacc or masters).

If you want to do it, there is a way! It just may take a bit of time and that is what you have to decide, if your willing to put in the time needed.

I agree this will be the route you will need to take at least in the beginning. Depending on your situation you may need to enter a post-bacc or a master's to solidify your bid for acceptance.

Here is another option if your a Texas resident or if you would be willing to enroll as a non-degree seeking student until you gain residency status.

I would try and do a postbacc program for a year. You could find one that would accept you.... Many of them are simply trying to enroll students for the money, so they would probably let you in. Granted you won't get into a top (or even close to a top tier) program but you could find one if you look hard enough. Call the program directors, tell them your desire, and do what you need to do. Good luck!

Are you looking for a post-bacc pre-req program, or a post bacc academic record enhancer (for students who have already taken the pre reqs)?

If you still need the pre-reqs, take them at the cheapest/most convenient 4 year university for you as a non-degree student. If you have already taken them, then start taking upper division biology coursework as a non degree student (micro, histo, physiology, anatomy, biochem, immunology etc).

After a year with good grades (in either the pre-reqs or upper division bio) you should be competitive for admission to a special masters program.

So you are looking at AT LEAST a year before you can apply (assuming you apply the summer before starting your SMP), maybe 2.

Good luck!

thank you so much for the support and by the way the reason i have such a stupid low gpa is bc...i took 24 credits one semester just to see if i could do it...and yea i know its stupid...but i guess thats what i get!

Whoever your advisor/dean was that signed off on that should be fired.

BTW, most people will tell you that dental school is similar to taking a course load of 25-30hrs per semester. Maybe you should take this into account for your career goals?

I hope that you have a lot of money or rich parents. If so, then you should take one last year to prove it to the world and to yourself that you have the academic ability to handle d-school.

I'm assuming that you got mostly C's in the basic science pre-reqs (chem, bio, physics, etc). If so, I would re-take those at a community college. I would take about 12-14 hours/semester.

If you get mostly A's in those classes at the community college, then a post-bacc program will accept you to take upper level bio classes.

At that point, if you get consistent A's & B's for over a year AND you nail 20's on the DAT, you will finally have a chance at an interview.

Are you up to the challenge?

Your big risk is that you could lose another year of your life and blow another $10k - $20k if you continue to get C's. Then your academic career will really be shot.

In regards to the MBA, since your grades are low, only a crappy MBA program will take you. A crappy MBA = Taco Bell manager.

An Ivy League MBA = $100k+/year, but you need good grades.....

I think before the OP embarks on this journey she really needs to do some serious soul searching as to why she did so poorly. Clear her head. Maybe go on a retreat or something. If the grades are as bad as she makes it sound she needs about 2 or 3 yrs of solid grades (nothing lower than Bs but preferably all As) to at least put herself in the running. Otherwise this is going to be an exercise in wasting money.

If she really is serious and has recommitted herself to doing well she is going to have to start as a nondegree student preferably at a 4 yr college. Regardless of how she does it (2nd bachelors, postbacc, and/or masters) she needs to begin showing a track record of success or nobody in their right mind will take her. Ultimately it's up to her and her commitment that will get the ball rolling.
