Too narrow personal statement?

I've heard that generally, you don't want to commit or be dead set on a specialty in your personal statement. However, is it okay to say you want to go into academic medicine? I have a lot of research, teaching, advocacy, which are in congruence with my career interests as a physician.

I've heard that generally, you don't want to commit or be dead set on a specialty in your personal statement. However, is it okay to say you want to go into academic medicine? I have a lot of research, teaching, advocacy, which are in congruence with my career interests as a physician.

It's more important to answer "why medicine". I'd save academic medicine for secondaries and interviews.
