How bad or good are everybody's teeth?

Pretty good. I have 3 composite fillings and that's about it. I've been taking good care of my teeth because I was always obsessed with them.

No work done, ever. I'm getting my wizzies out this summer, and hopefully that'll be it for life. 😉

Great for the most part. I am 30 years old, I have had one root canal in #8 (the result of butting heads with a horse) and currently have no fillings.

Funny you should ask 'cause I just got back from my dentist appointment 1 hr ago! Hygienist told me I don't make her work very hard at all and the dentist (my first time seeing this guy) asked me when I got my braces off. I told him I never had braces, and he told me I have beautiful teeth with a beautiful bite! Nice of him to stroke my ego like that. 😍

My teeth are horrible!!! Lots of problems, lots of fillings, lots of crowns. I grew up in MX... bad water!! Well, maybe that's not it since have a twin brother and he NEVER took care of his teeth and hardly has any problems. It may be genetics as well. My mother had to get dentures at the age of 27 since all her teeth were rotten and my father's teeth are ALL bad as well, they're all fake. My children's teeth are bad even though I take care of them... :scared:

Have great teeth that's what people say when they see me smiling. 😀 Indeed I do have great teeth because I grew up part of my life in west africa and candy was very rare. 😀

Well I have always had the PERFECT record at the dentist up until a year ago. When I was younger I had sealants put in to "prevent cavities". Well, to make a long story short, the sealant leaked and a cavity formed underneath. I have to say that I am quite ill about that, but for the most part no one will ever be able to tell because the filling isn't the traditional, ugly, silver amalgam. So other than that, I still have the compliments coming right after another. 😀

I have horrible teeth: amalgams, composites, crown, root canals, etc. Thankfully, everything is fixed and undercontrol now.

I grew up in very poor area of my state and dental hygiene was never emphasized in my family. But I am not upset about it--in fact that's what originally drew me to dentistry. I look at it like this, I will truly be able to empathize with my patients as I will have had the dental treatment experience myself. Futhermore, I hope to be able to get out there and educate my patients on proper dental hygiene since I never got it.

no fillings 🙂 I had 2 cavities my first trip to the dentists, but those fillings were in my baby molars, and those are gone now. And the orthodontist back in middle school made my teeth all straight. So I guess they're pretty good. 😀

can u guys beat me? i didn't go to the dentist for about 6 years and when i did i had 6 cavities (talk about not practicing what you preach)....i think that's not too shabby considering how long it was. but yeah, i've had cavities all my life....at one point...one of my front teeth was totally black...thank goodness it was a baby tooth. luckily, i have no crowns or root canals *knocks on wood*. but i've been taking real good care of my teeth as of late...

I'm 21 and had 8 fillings, root canal (2x on same tooth), crown, wisdom teeth extractions, orthognathic surgery. I win 😱

I didn't have any fillings until I was 26, but then I needed 6 of 'em (ack!). I figure that's not too bad for someone who grew up in a household where one parent had to have full dentures by the age of 50 for simple lack of oral hygiene.

As of now, I have multiple small cavities and am taking excellent care of my teeth in the hopes of keeping the cavities at bay until I move to a town with a dental school so I can afford to get them filled!

I like having had some dental work done (that and 5 years' worth of ortho) because I feel more able to empathize with patients than I might be if I had perfect teeth.

Of course the flip side is that I recently got a direct insult from a dental professional about how bad my teeth are for someone who wants to work in the dental field. 🙁 :meanie:

No dental work at all and no signs of needing any for years.

I found it very interesting how the general sentiment seems to be that if you have had dental work your teeth are bad and vice versa. I have a totally different viewpoint:

2 all gold crowns W/ RCT on18 and 30
6 comp rests on posterior teeth in excellent shape

I have had a fair amount of dental wark, but I think my teeth are excellent! IMO, a properly restored tooth is nearly as good as a virgin tooth. All you guys/gals with crowns and bridges be proud of your restored teeth, if they were still carious, THAT WOULD BE BAD!! 😀

I've never had a cavity, braces, or anything, But I may have to have my wisdom teeth pulled, which is kind of scary because I've seen the procedures and have experienced the patient's anxiety-not having to go through that myself. Also, I've been asked many times, "are those still your baby teeth"
...I'm almost 24 years old.....baby teeth when do we lose those?
🙂

3 cavities (hence fillings) from when i was younger.
they are clean - said the hygenist 🙂 i was so self conscious when i got it done, cuz it's @ the place i shadow!! but it was all good 👍

had CRAZY ortho done tho!!
headgearSS, braces, rubberbands, retainerSS...i still wear em! 😱

The only patients I have worked on that had primary teeth "aka: Baby teeth" at your age were those individuals that had genetic prediposition to be missing the permanent ones that should have erupted underneath it. This is most common in the lateral incisor's, err in not dental lingo, I mean the teeth next to your two big front teeth. (The centrals.) There are other's as well but the laterals are the most common followed by the wisdom teeth to be genetically missing in the permanent dentition.

Just wanted to clarify Darksunshine,
I've lost my primary teeth, fortunately I don't have that genetic predisposition. My permanent teeth are somewhat small, and many people have asked if I still had my baby/primary teeth. But you learn something everyday, I didn't know that some people don't lose their primaries ...due to genetic reasons.

I have 3 veneers (trauma) + 1 RCT on #8. Then 1 porcelain inlay on a molar, and 4 amalgams. One day i'm gonna take the amalgams out and convert them to porcelain onlays.

I've have my fair share of amalgam fillings and I have had braces twice. I had an upper palatte expansion and after that I had a mandibular osteotomy. That entailed having my mouth wired shut for a month. Good times!

I'm not sure if that trumps everyone else on here, but I think I've had the most dental sugery/work of anyone I know. (My best friend is right up there having had several of the same procedures)

Right now my teeth and bite look great! 😀

Ahh. I see. Well small teeth are cute too!

Lot's of work. I have had braces twice, wisdom teeth out, a few amalgam fillings when I was young, which I had replaced a few years ago with porcelain, and some cosmetic work on my front teeth (very bad car accident - led to some severe chippage). Needless to say I have never been bothred by trips to the dentist or orthodonist!

Anyone ever rock the "headgear?"

Or just had the freekiest smile?

Off topic: your avatar is old school.... ah the memories

I played Street Fighter about ten years ago... always used to call him "Sagat the fa ggot" because I could never beat him -- he made video-game playing so stressful! (give me a break, I was 9)

As far as teeth go -- tooth #8 is missing, really it's gone! Going to get a bridge in a few weeks. Dentist advised not to go with an implant because the upper bone (name?) has multiple small fractures.

Maxilla? Alveolar process?

yeah, this isn't even the sagat from the original street fighter 2 (i couldn't find it)...this one is from alpha (if you know what that means cool...if not don't worry about it). they totally beefed him up in the later versions. but yes, the memories... 👍

Honestly I'm not sure, I just come into the pre-dental forums to read around 😀 I'm assuming that tooth 8 is one of the "bunny rabbit" teeth (yes, pardon my ignorance)... it was punched out when I was mugged

Well, my teeth are just perfect now. I've had over $40,000 of work done...seriously. Thank god for insurance. This almost all due to 11 CMT (congenitally missing teeth)

2 sets of braces
1 sagital split
1 sinus lift
2 mandible vertical distraction osterogenesis
11 implants
11 cubic zarconium (sp?) posts
11 crowns
4-3rds remvoed
perio surgery

Hence...bionic mouth man. My PAN glows like a Xmas tree 🙂

I have had about 10 fillings. No other work has been done though.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Ok... enough SF, back to the topic...

you rock. Now tell me you did it with no anesthetic and you get the washer and dryer set. 👍

One time my little brother had a filling drilled with NO ANESTHETIC. No kidding. He just really hates needles. But from what I hear it was really small so it's not like he's super human or anything, or probobly not even as tough as me.

Wow, send me a picture! I want to see. 🙂

Here is the halfway point during the whole thing. I'm still trying to get to my oral surgeon and get him to make a copy of my final PAN. LOL, I could probably just walk in and take a new one myself I've used that thing so many times...

🙂 LOL! I would but I think my husband would kill me for falling in love with your teeth! I am impressed at your positive attitude after having so much work done. WOW, truly and amazing amount of work.

Back when I was trying to pay for braces on my upper teeth (I was 16, on my own, and a single parent), lucky me I had one extra permanent canine above my #11. They told me I would need to get my jaw broken and slid back to correct my end to end bite. (My lower jaw is slightly longer than it should be, not noticeable in a physical sense but I wish I could "bite over" and I just can't. Anyway, back on point, I freaked at the idea of having my jaw broke. Have you had any problem with idiopathic root resorbtion or teeth needing RCT from the jaw surgery. (My head and neck instructor would role over in his grave if he knew I was using the word jaw!) hahahahhaha.

Not that I am aware of, and since the sagitall split was done in 2000, I think it would have been noticed since then. I did however get a slight numbness on the right side of my chin and lower lip. My surgeon said (and I can vouch from waking up during bone reconstruction) that I have very dense bone, and that all the jostling to break it and reposition it teased the submandibular nerve (I think thats the one that is of concern). Its not numb completely, just hyposensitive. Worst thing that happens is that I don't notice mustard or mayo after a juicy sandwhich and my date looks at me funny for a half hour.
