I just got back from the testing center...

My overall impression:

I felt like the scoring seemed to be slightly more inflated than the practice tests in the sciences (either that or I just made really good guesses). While I was taking the test, I thought I would get 17's or 18's on every section except maybe the PAT. For some reason, I thought the PAT was incredibly easier than the practice test scores while I was taking it but I got around the same score on the real thing.

As far as the reading section goes, it is basically a science version of the SAT verbal. I probably only had 5-8 questions that were as clear-cut as most of the practice test questions. I ended up reading most of my passages almost the whole way through by the end of the test.

My advice to those who have never taken the test before:

DO NOT freak out about little details in the sciences!! Know the basics and the "whole picture".
Also, sleep well the night before! I got about 4 hours last night and I feel very blessed to have received the scores I did.
Finally, NEVER give up in the middle of the test. Like I mentioned, I thought I was going to get 17-18's on almost everything and probably a 16 in the math and reading sections. Your scores will probably be better than you think.

Oh, one more thing...

Do not drink a lot of fluids before the test! I had coffee, orange juice, and a glass of water before mine and I ended up going to the bathroom twice during the science section and again at the break! If I didn't have to do that I might have had a little more time to look at some more of my marked questions again.

If you would like to ask me about how I studied for the test or more about my general experience, feel free!! I will not give anyone specific information (questions, answers, etc.) about my test.

GOOD LUCK to those of you that are taking it soon!!!

Hi,
congratulation on your score. what practice material did you use?

:hardy: LUCKY YOU!! UR ALL DONE 🙂 PARTY TIME 😉 :hardy:

any thoughts on destroyer or crack pat?

Thanks!

I used Kaplan, Topscore, Achiever, and Destroyer.

Kaplan: Read through it probably 2-3 times and supplemented the stuff I didn't know by reading in my old textbooks.

Destroyer: Did all of the problems and read the solutions but not a whole lot more than that.

I sort of ran out of time and didn't get through my practice materials as much as I wanted to. After taking it, I'm not sure how much better I would have done if I had spent a lot more time with destroyer or went over the old tests a few more times. Probably a little, not much.

I just got back from the testing center and got the following scores:

BIO: 22
CHEM: 22
ORG: 23
PAT: 20
RC: 20
QR: 19

My overall impression:

This was my first time taking the DAT. I scored higher or equal to my highest practice test scores in every section except reading, math, and PAT. I am very satisfied with my scores and I don't plan on retaking.

As far as the reading section goes, it is basically a science version of the SAT verbal. There were lots of "finish the paragraph" or "what is the author's tone..."-type questions. I probably only had 5-8 questions that were as clear-cut as most of the practice test questions. I ended up reading most of my passages almost the whole way through by the end of the test. My passages were around 15-20 paragraphs.

what is back ground? Bio or etc?
how did you study for math section?
congrats again!

Nice work...solid scores. Is it safe to assume that the practice tests that you're referring to were achiever and topscore? Just wondering if these are good benchmarks.

Wow! Nice scores! Congratulations!!!

I am a Bio major. It definitely helps to have taken cell bio, micro, genetics, etc. even if just for the experience in answering application and experimental questions.

For the math section, I studied the practice tests mainly and used my brother's high school trig book for a few things. I found out that a lot of those triangle side length formulas can be avoided by just learning the trig unit circle. The math section seemed to be a lot like the practice tests. Math and gen chem were my weakest sections when I started studying.

Yes, I used achiever and topscore. I feel like they were accurate for organic, math, and PAT. PAT seemed sooooo easy compared to achiever (especially) and topscore but I got about the same score.

Good Luck and thanks for the compliments!!

congrats on the great scores!!! welcome to dental school.. where are you applying?
