Hey guys, this is my very first post...I've been a lurker for the past couple of weeks and I registered today after taking my first DAT...
I need some advice and was wondering what you guys think. Please be honest, as I'm seriously considering and will most probably retake the test as soon as possible. (Btw, does anyone know when I can retake the test? I know you have a waiting period of about 90 days...)
Anyway, I will post my scores. They are not the greatest as I've seen some really great and admirable scores on this forum but I did better than I thought I would have. I was aiming higher, for at least a 23AA/TS, because my dream school is Columbia. Do you think I have a chance with my scores?
PAT- 18 🙁
QR - 19
RC - 23
BIO - 19 🙁
GC - 22
OC - 23
TS- - 21
AA - 21
I studied long and hard for this exam, with a very rigorous study schedule for the past 2 months basically (all day everyday). I used Kaplan, DAT destroyer, math destroyer, and topscore. I messed up on the bio section because, honestly, the questions were so random and out of the blue and nothing that I was very familiar with. And I probably spent the most hours studying bio (Campbells, Kaplan, Wikipedia, Destroyer). I was very surprised at how different the questions in the bio section seemed from the questions on Topscore and Kaplan. I was pretty bummed out about bio, but I kept going, reminding myself that gchem and ochem were new sections and new scores. Not so bad, one or two genchem questions that actually had me stumped. Ochem I probably spent the least time studying for, most questions were pretty straightforward but one question which was a condensation reaction I did the mechanism for it like 3x and none of the answers matched up, so that had me flustered. Lastly, I'm really concerned about my PAT score. I was scoring well on Topscore and Kaplan PAT sections and didn't really worry about it. However, the PAT angles and paper folding were MUCH harder than what I've seen on any practice test and I think I lost track of time. By the time I got to cube counting I only had about 20 minutes. I flew by cube counting and pattern folding and my hands were shaking by then as I knew I had messed up because I simply didn't have enough time. I had to guess on 30% of the paper folding.
Do you guys think that my PAT score is really terrible? It really bums me out. I hope it won't hinder my chances.
Also, GPA is around 3.7 with over 600+ hours of dent experience and all the other "fluff." I'm also shooting for UPenn, NYU, StonyBrook, UConn, Tufts, BU. Thoughts please?
(If anyone wants a further breakdown, let me know)
