Took my DAT yesterday

i just finished my DAT yesterday, it was not that abd. when i walked out the test room, i felt that's it?? it's not realy difficult as i thought should be.
my experience is that the actual DAt is much more easier than any practice tests i had used. i got almost all the practice tests i can get, such as topscore, dat achiever, dat professor, and another private practice from ebay. i was going to try the acethedat, but at the end i realize i dont' have the time to do it, so didn't spend my money on it. also kaplan blue book was helpful for reviewing the material. i didn't take the course because i think it's not worth the money, but i bought the course book, lesson notes, and flashcards on ebay. there were redundency of the kaplan course book and big blue book, so i suggest buy either one of them, not both. as a conclusion, i think flashcards and kaplan blue book are sufficient for DAT. plus lots of practice tests.
suggestion when doing all the practice tests, whether topscore, dat achiever, or kaplan, don't panic if you didn't get satisfy score on them. because they are really way too difficult than actual DAT.

ps. i found out something kidna weird, on my DAT RC section, one of my 3 essay is not about science, it's not even relate to science. it's about stocks, about how to determine good/bad stocks, and couple formulas. just surprising, so i want to mention it here. so dont' think DAT's essay are all science related. additionally, did any one who had taken DAt, have the same experience with me??!!

I have great anxiety about the DAT, and I plan to study until I am blue in the face. Your post definitely gives me a slight sigh of relief that it will not be as bad as I am fearing.

DP so your saying the subject tests for BIO that were given in the kaplan course online are a bit more difficult than the actual thing.
Also for the Bio section on your test were there a lot of genetics problems if any, and also how do you think the test is easier on the bio. Were there any taxonomy, plant parts, anything unusual pop up that you were surprised about or thought should have studied more? Please elaborate. Kinda stressing my test is coming up soon. If its possible could you also post your scores, or PM me. Thanks a ton.

i dont' know about the kaplan course online's subject test for bio, because i didn't take the course. so, can't help you with that. my sayign was all the practice tests i got , topscore, dat achiever, dat professor, ..... were more difficult than real DAT.
bio section, there were 2 or 3 geneticQ's, but really basic. like if the parents r heterogenetic, what percentage their children will be.....soemthing like that. 1 or 2 taxonomyQ's, but really simple and straight forward. knowing the characteristics of each of them is enough. plantQ's, i think there was 1 or 2. either xylem/phloem or flower structure, i can't really remember. many human anatonmyQ's, make sure you know these. after all there were few Q's i am not sure or don't know for bio. i get lots of time left so i went back and check them again. one Q i rememer is about the cheetah population gone extinct, and what cause that. i chose "genetic drift", and there were other choices like, "genetic flow", "mutation"... i dont' know if i got it right or not. but i think i got that oen right.
anyway, overall, there were no suprising Q's, all the stuff r you had studied or known. the only thing is how much confendence you have about ur choices. i would say the actual DAT is easier than practice is because all the Q's r really straight forward, no tricky. either you know it or no idea at all. by the way, dont' forget to mark the Q's you strugle on, because you won't know if you wil have time left at the end or not. if you do, good, cause you can go back and check. so, no harm to mark them.

don't be too stress, hope you will feel the same way as i do after the DAT.

believe it or not, it's my score and my thoughts toward the DAT that i had taken.
what i had written is for people who need more info for DAT, i know it will help some people in certain ways.
for these who don't believe me, it's ok. i dont' need to care what you think. it is my score, and it will help me get into the d-school i want.

ps. for the PAT section, i just enjoy doing these 3-d Q's. i think they r interesting. when i was young, i play lots of lego and like doing paper folding, i guess it helps me a lot on my PAT section.

It is possible tho. My friend got a 26 Science, with a 24 academic and a 26 PAT...so it is possible...just very unlikely..plus the person I know studied for lik 9 months straight.

Congratulations!! 👍 "Pretty well" ??!! With those scores you will have no problems gaining acceptances and possibly some scholarships. If you have a good gpa then I would only apply to your top five schools - save the money and enjoy the upcoming cycle.

Not everyone can do it, but if you haven't taken the test or want a better score, they can potentially be of assistance. For me, I graduated in 2004 with a B.S.- Biology, then started working for Dell in business sales a month later. I took my DAT in March '05 but did not study at all as I was working 60 hrs. a week for a measely $40K at Dell. I got a mediocre 19 on the strength of my natural abilities in the PAT(22), as the rest of my scores were very lacking. I was accepted to Meharry Medical College and that was my first and only choice. I could have actually picked up a book and studied, or spent hundreds of dollars on test prep materials that I think are crap, but I didn't. Don't knock people when they share their scores, for the simple fact that whether they're lying or not it doesn't make one **** of a difference to YOUR LIFE. Typically it just makes you look like an @ss for degrading them.

For good test-takers, sorry to say this, but the DAT is not hard to score well on. No studying, no prep, no classes, 20+ across the board for me. And there are definitely smarter/better test-takers out there than me....

yeah I had that too!! Had a passage about finances! I loved it since I was an econ major and had just finished my senior thesis on the topic!! Didn't even have to read it.

THat passage was probably the same one that I had from the March 2004 DAT. The questions were pretty much plug and play, with the exception of one concerning the 'tone' of the passage, if I remember correctly... Those always make me second guess my answer because it's so subjective. My perception of the 'tone' of the passage could be completely different than someone elses!

test prep materials are not necessarily crap. they help people. but yea, i agree with the rest of what you said. anyway, congrats on getting into meharry medical. g'luck. 👍

I think that I had that same passage on my DAT also. It was great, I think I only refered back to the passage for 1 or 2 questions. Actually all three of my passages were somewhat familiar to me so it made the RC part a lot easier than any of the practice tests that I had taken. I actually finished that section with 5 minutes or so to spare where all of the practice tests I was really rushed for time.

PS I believe your scores, everyone else who are baggin on you are just jealous
