A challenging test, but very doable.

If I had to do it over again i would again use First Aid and kaplan Qbank.

question length and layout were identical to qbank.

first aid was basically enough for my entire exam. there were a few micro and neuro questions that were over the top hard. Some really hard genetics also, but overall First AId was DEFINATLEY the way to go.

Pharm was definately covered by First Aid as was micro.

Path was definately great in first aid and most of my test was path or pathophysiology.

biochem was the major stuff. NOt too much minutia.

i had very very very few equations to work out.

overall, exam was challenging, but like i said it was very doable at the same time.

good luck to all!

hey man congrats 👍

quick question: was the info as presented in FA enough to answer the majority of the path and phys questions or did you have to take the info in FA and apply some major thinking into it to be able to answer the questions? i guess what im asking is....if i know the info in FA fairly well, do i have to worry about being able to work out the path and pathophys questions on the test?

I took it yesterday as well. I think for Path and Phys it was def enough. That being said I loved Path so I feel like I pretty much knew the BRS (almost) backwards and forwards. I had a crap load of anatomy and neuroanatomy which was not good for me 🙂 Actually the anatomy I had wasnt too hard but the neuroanatomy was insane. Also I thought the majority of questions were fair and there were some hard questions where I just had no clue. For the Pharm section most of my questions dealt with SEs but they were pretty basic. I had one questions that was basically, pt has this infx and is allergic to these drugs which of these other drugs do you use. Basically, it was a question that tests the breadth of knowledge you have as to which drugs can be used on some important organisms.

Also, as a side note.. I was ON THE EXAM!! Worked out nicely for me esp since there was also a picture of me on my path class final.

I thought if you had attended the first 2 years of medschool and actually payed decent attention then with the help of first aid you should be fine.

some of the questions you just know from school ............i had several on the actual test that were really basic stuff and others i answered from some mneumonics from first aid.

knowing first aid is crucial and i think will suffice most people.......of course doing tons of questions doesn't hurt either.

for you guys who got hit hard in anatomy and neuro... how many questions did you guys have? I was hoping to rely on FA for anatomy and Neuro but now im confused. could FA be enough for those subjects?

hahahaha!

so i guess it's true that nolte does write questions for boards. thought that was just a rumor around here.

about 25 gross, 0 histo, 15 embryo, and 15 neuro..

so 55 in all. FA is pretty basic and covered a majority of the questions (70%) but the other 30% needed HY Neuro, Langman's Embryo and some good ol' fashioned med school gross anatomy lecture rememberin'. But, of course this was just my exam and it can all change for everyone else.

Hi Stinger86-

I think you've mentioned Langman's Embryo a couple of times- do you think I'd be doing myself a disservice to rely on HY Embryo (I don't have Langman)?

Nah, HY Embryo is probably good enough... especially since most people don't get many embryo questions on their exam. I personally liked the setup of Langman's and thought it was a good read, but that could be because I was ticked that I bought the thing and never looked at it during my Embryo course. 🙄
