So I just took my DAT and Im not really sure where I stand.

PAT: 19
BIO: 19
CHEM: 18
OCHEM: 18
QR: 17🙁 (never got lower than a 20 in achiever and top score)
RC: 16 🙁 (Again never got below a 20)
TS: 19
AA: 18

I know my scores are average, but I don't want to take the test again. I have a 3.63 gpa, and Im shadowing an oral surgeon. Im planning on applying to at leat 10 schools. What are my chances??

I think you have good scores.

Your QR is fine, but RC is valued very highly. I would say retake but since you dont want to, contact the schools you are planning to apply to and ask them if these scores are acceptable. Good luck!

I was in your shoes last year. I had taken the DAT in August and scored an 18AA with QR being my lowest at a 15 and with 19s across the boards besides 18 in RC. I didn't realize applying early was such a key. So i esubmitted in August. Big mistake on my part and I think a big reason of why I did not make it in last year. With your gpa (which is good) and your DAT (which isn't bad) applying early is key and applying many places is a must. 10 actually may not cut it. I applied to 14. This year 31 and applied in may and now I have two confirmed interviews. (i haven't retaken the dat but plan to july 31) I believe august, july, and beginning of sept. are prime months for committee review. If you don't submit soon you pass the peak time for application review.

So apply now.(if you haven't already) Focus on what makes you unique and why you want to be a dentist. Make yourself a strong interviewer. (I don't mean rehearse every question available and have printed out answers). Just think about things.

Wow...you already have confirmed interviews?? Is that possible this early in the game?
That's great!

I submitted in May with AA 18...and I will be retaking in october. Do you advise that I notify ALL schools that I am retaking in october or should I run with these scores? I wrote letters to the top-tier schools to hold on to my application..which I haven't sent out yet. What do you think?

yeah if you look in the predent section there are dozens of people on there with interview invites. Don't get discouraged though there are plenty more to come. I would advise schools of a retake. That is smart to retake in October. Last cycle I thought I could get in with an 18 applying late (which at the time i didn't realize how late i was applying) if I had retaken the Dat in October it would have increased my chances. Don't necessarily tell them to hold on to the application, but tell that that you are striving for improvement and would be retaking the DAT.

October may be to late; however, it may work for some schools. When you do retake go ahead and fax it to all the schools so they are aware of it asap. Then send them the official score reports.
