Hi everyone!

Everyone on here seems to have spectacular scores, and well I took mine today and I'm not too happy with them. Do I have a shot at getting accepted into an optometry school?

QR: 340
RC:260 (I scored a 340 on the opted exam!!!)
Bio: 320
G Chem: 340
O Chem: 330
Physics: 320
TS: 340
AA: 320

GPA: 3.7

and I have a lot of extra curriculars: I am an officer for 2 different clubs, I tutor undergrad students in ochem, I have interned for 2 different types of optometry offices, and shadowed 2 others. What are my chances? Be honest!

I think you have pretty good chances. Your GPA is very competitive and your OAT scores are around the average and not that much below average. Plus, your ECs will make up for it. So, don't worry..I think you have a good chance.

Go ahead and call up the schools you are applying to and ask them about the 260 though.

Our stats are very similar...what schools do you plan on applying to?

I am planning to apply to pacific, uc berkeley, New England, and Illinois.

I would say you have a pretty good shot. The only one that you may have problems with would be Berkeley. Just make sure you apply soon if you haven't already.

The RC in the OAT completely threw me off. I scored the exact same score. Beforehand, I took the Opted Test and a couple of Kaplan tests and scored around a 350. So I was probably as shocked as you. The schools I'll be applying to are UHCO and Nova.

Good Luck with your applications!

i think for the california schools (i don't know about western) need a minimum of 300 on each section of the OATs...😕

I called UC berkeley and they dont have a minimum for each section. They told me that my chances of getting in really depends on the applicant pool for the year. I don't know about SCCO or Western though.

SCO doesn't really make it clear on their website, but it's clear in the application packet that 330 is the lowest accepted score. 300 was back in the day- 2004

I want to go to SCO and you say 330 is the lowest for any section or overall? I have a 360AA and 380TS but got 320 in Bio.

Since you're an ochem tutor, you must know you stuff! Although 330 is a good score (~80th %ile?), do you feel there is any reason you did not score any higher on that section specifically? You should be able to get a 370+ on that.

too stressed? no stamina?

If you can figure it out, take a full length practice test (buy one of the programs) and see how you do; your score may improve significantly all around.

Actually I was pretty surprised to see my Ochem score that low as well, because on the kaplan practice exams I was scoring above 350. Kaplan's ochem section was a lot more specific compared to the OAT exam which was more broad. I guess the reason I scored low on that section was that I studied specific reactions like the witting, and cannizzaro reactions. Instead of studying broad reactions like eliminations, and hydrolysis reactions. Another thing was that I was more focused on studying for my weak subjects like physics and general chem, and I didn't devote as much time on ochem like I should have.
