Ok took that bad girl today
Difficulty?.was very similar to the name self assessment, and much less detailed than QB (not 1 HLA association)?Like many already said...these questions probably came from the same pool as the nBme SA.
Path- most of the exam was path/patho phys?.very general common pathologies?almost 20% of this exam came from the first few chapters of general path ?.in fact , I think the first few chapters of BRS is probably the Highest yield source out there. 30% of my exam came from t his section?.cellbio, genetics, etc
Pharm?.Mostly MOAs?and some very common idiosyncratic side effects. But most of the side effect Qs were those that were just extensions of the physiologic actions of the Rx. I.e?.palpitations w/albuterol. I only got one unfamiliar drug?and the answer was very intuitive if u knew the pathology of the disease. I don?t think they even expected u to know this rx??just wanted to know if u understood the path mech of the disease.
Physio- Lots of physio aslo, but also very basic stuff?..endocrine heavy.
Micro?I didn?t get much micro in my exam??only got 1 parasite (a malaria drug?..I don?t want to say the specific?big brother may be browsing?but most u guys know which one im talking about?..lool)?.once again I got lucky?.did not study any parasites?hahaha
Anatomy/Embro/Neuro?.Most of the embryo I got were embyo path?..(covered in the pediatric path section of robbins)?.id id get one question obscure sox/pax/shh questions?.I just laughed and moved on.
the anatomy were also very basic?tho I did not get much upper limb anatomy. Lots of abdominal anatomy. Very little neuro, probably les than 7. Ans I spent so much time on this *mad*. MOST of the neuro had images of brain corona sections.
Cell Bio / Molecular bio---I didn?t get much DNA stuff?the few I get were very very very basic..if u know basic process of trasncription/replication/translation?u should be fine. Did not get any gel electrophoresis stuff?and only got 1 PCR stuff. U didn?t even have to know what PCR was to answer this.
Lots of cell bio stuff?.second messengers, g proteins, tyrosine kinas?etc?I mean at least 3-6 or so / block. They asked them in different context tho?
Immuno?.all conceptual questions?.had to spend a some time To time about them.
And on FA. Although 70% of the info could be found on FA, I dont think this is the best way to review the material??only read though first AID once?over a period of 1 month 10pg /day?..didn?t bother reading the physic section. From my observation, the exam was more basic concepts and less regurg.
Behaviroral- mostly dr./pt. Relationship stuff?about 20 total. Easier the QB qs tho?.and there also a few questions. Requiring knowledge of diff b/w personality disorders and mood/psychotic disorders.
Biochem- lots of vitamins?and surprisingly some detailed pathway stuff?.
So in general I thought it was a fair exam??at about Q330 I could have sworn I heard rafiki from lion king 1.5 saying ?you must loook beyond what you can see!!!?.loool)?.this was in one of those confusing dr./pt relationship stuff??.and I got some sleep before this?imagine if ihad taken this on Monday without sleep?!!!!
AS for me
I studied system -based using BRS path/physio/pharm as my main source?..FA for anatomy/embryo?.selected lippencots for biochem, ?.HY, and selected BRS for neuro?BRS fro micro
and immuno.. (yuk), BRS for behavioral.
Did QB (74% random unused avg?62-94 range-- after 1200 random timed questions?)?..I stopped randoms after this?the questions started getting redundant especially path? So I just did some selected pathophys/micro/pharm qs. This is not averaged into the above score. Left 300+ path questions undone.
QB cd 77% , did only 5 sections....began to fall asleep so I stopped?
Nbme self assessment?700
Released items 86avg?.only first 100qs.
Some BSS?but my cd stoped working?.actually averaged higher on this than QB?.
Didn?t use the usmle site?since I was already familiar with these qs from doing pre-test form my shelf exams.
Robbins path review?.very good source?and since I read robbins thoroughly during path?..this was a perfect fit. (didn?t attend path lectures?useless imho)
