TOP 10 REASONS TO BE A DO AND NOT MD, I started this since a lot of people have been telling me **** about DO's like your patients will question your degree and stuff, but then again I hear its good for surgery specialties with an emphasis on anatomy....what do you think???

*Also, off topic, but DOES NSU-COM OR PCOM HAVE MORE STUDENTS THAT GAIN ALLOPATHIC RESIDENCIES VS. OSTEOPATHIC RESIDENCIES? (According to stats, NSU-COM has better DO placement rates.)

1. When MRSA and XDRTB take over, lymphatic flush will be our only hope.

FuturePharm, are you implying that we don't learn anatomy in MD programs??😕

I'm not sure of the OP's original intentions with the thread....BUT, how could you get that he's implying that from the post?? I mean come on....

Well, just not sure how DO school would give anyone this big advantage in going into surgery?

This question shows that you are completely uninformed about residency placement rates. Being that the AOA match occurs one month prior to the ACGME match, 100% of the class could have theoretically matched in the ACGME match, but 50% could end up in the AOA match (and thus withdrawn from the ACGME match.)

As a result of this factor, it means absolutely nothing to look at the number of people who match in the ACGME vs. the AOA. This is particularly true because most likely, >50% of the class will not have taken the USMLE nor have applied to the ACGME match.

I thought your spring break was over? :meanie:

oh FuturePharm, FuturePharm, FuturePharm

FuturePharm, for the love of everything we all hold near and dear, make ONE thread with your NSU/PCOM issue(s) and STICK TO IT.

Oh dear god you just told him/her to make another thread. I need sedatives!

SHUT UP haha lol I couldn't help myself with these questions...

The associate dean at Nova told me everyone as NSU-COM is required to take the USMLE and COMLEX.......so questions entered my curious curious head haha

AND NO ONE ANSWERED THE REASONS FOR BEING DO INSTEAD OF MD, DID YOU ALL JUST NOT ENTER AN DO MEDICAL SCHOOL BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TELLING ME...*I didn't get into BS/MD so I'm choosing BS/DO, I am honest🙂*

;p Lol I will maybe later, but anyways people can delete old threads or not respond if they lost their great interest in me haha

Hmmm. A COM which requires students to take the USMLE. I find that one rather hard to swallow.

hey I am not making it up, she said NSU-COM does, but who knows, and then I dont get drmidlife's statement if it wasn't sarcastic

Hmmm....haven't heard about NOVA actually requiring students to take both. A lot probably will anyway.

Not real sure what you're looking for in reasons to choose one over the other. There are a TON of different reasons and each person is going to have their own reasons and their own preferences as far as what's important to them. In my mind both DO and MD would turn me into a physician, in the end I went through the process and chose where I thought would be a better fit. Two of more important things in my mind were location (wanted to stay in Florida and then in certain regions) and Curriculum (really was impressed with PBL). Really had less to do with any DO vs. MD stuff than just flat out practical differences between schools.

I'm totally serious. Google any word you like.

Also google "blanket party" because you're one waiting to happen.

Personally, I prefer the soft roundness of the O compared to the sharp points of the M.

reason 2: you're accepted to do but not md haha lol
reason 3: all your friends are going to be do and not md haha lol
reason 4: you're accepted to do school in a nice location and an md school in a location you don't like haha lol
reason 5: you can match in both aoa and acgme haha lawl

...

Ha, I really hope other people got that reference.
Haha, I watched the episode tonight about the kids getting high on the cat pee. Cheesing. So funny. And Cartman protecting the cats like they were Ann Frank and her family. So ironic.

6. Its flows better to write DO after your name than MD
7. You get more chicks because you learn to use your hands on the pubic symphysis
8. Hotter chicks at DO schools. (not sure about the guys ladies.)

That episode was absolutely hilarious. I was kinda worried about this season because the first two were just alright for south park standards but cheesing was great. I love the setup Stan's dad had all set up in his basement.

um no one answered my questions besides joking about it, I can't believe you are med school students if you don't take questions seriously

now I'll admit, I am getting annoying, but ignore me then, I don't need to read people going off topic, my question is perfectly reasonable:

Besides not getting into MD school, why did you choose DO over it and some get accepted to both but still choose to become a DO, so I wanted to know why and get insight not stupid sarcasm...

thank you

Here I'll help you understand post #2.

MRSA: methycillin-resistant staph aureus. Kills people. As time goes by, we're running out of antibiotics to treat it.

XDRTB: extremely drug-resistant tuberculosis. Kills people. We don't have any antibiotics that work against it.

lymphatic flush: one of three basic osteopathic techniques. Stimulates the immune system. Was about the only thing that worked at all during the 1917 influenza epidemic. There weren't any antibiotics then.

you: pesky child with none of the maturity or work ethic you'd expect from a high school senior who wants to be a doctor.

Piss off.

med students dont take everything seriously. that goes for premeds and doctors too.

You just got SERVED!

There weren't any antibiotics then.

Would antibiotics be effective against an influenza outbreak anyway? I'm only being half a smart-***, I don't know anything about the history of the epidemic.

Op, this, while rough, is correct. The reasons you're only getting sarcastic responses here are twofold:

1) You've already asked enough generalized questions about NSU/PCOM/Osteopathic medicine aimed at assuaging your own insecurities about the topic. At some point, you need to stop gathering the opinions of others (you've done it at this point), gather the facts, and consider carefully how you feel about them to make your decision from there. That's where maturity comes in--at some point you're going to need to be able to be comfortable enough with your decision-making ability to be able to brush off idiots who don't know what the hell they're talking about.

There are certain advantages and consequences to going the DO route. You've got them by now.

2) The question is a little dumb to begin with. You'll never be asked "Why DO instead of MD?" You'll be asked "Why DO?" Figuring out how osteopathic medicine is better than allopathic should not be your goal. Figuring out whether osteopathic medicine is sufficient for your career goals is.

And there's not a reason to start a new thread to figure that out. Do some research and decide if you're comfortable. If not, go somewhere else for college and apply to both your senior year.

By the way...high school is generally too early to be hitting up SDN often. Freshman and even Sophomore year of college even are on the early side.

Of course antibiotics work on influenza. Just look at the number of people who go out and get their ******ed PCP's to give them z-packs when they get the flu.

Against the virus, no, antibiotics wouldn't have helped, but it's thought that subsequent bacterial infections caused the pneumonia that did everybody in.

:beat::corny::boom:

Don't feed the troll. Good luck with Jr. High little boy.

but it's thought that subsequent bacterial infections caused the pneumonia that did everybody in.

That's what I suspected you meant.

OK...this has turned into about the most worthless thread I've seen in a while.

Futurepharm: Medicine is a very, very small community. You don't want to get the reputation as a nuisance before you even get to college. One of these people may be the person deciding whether or not you get a good residency in 8 years. Trust me, they WILL remember you. So, try not to burn any bridges up front. There's nothing cute about pissing everyone off.

BTW, if you ask that NSU vs PCOM question ever again I'm sending you to bed with no supper.

The rest of you: Give it a rest. You are the "adults" here. Don't feed the kid who barely knows better at this point. If he's annoying, you can filter him out very easily and never have to view another post of his again.

I'm stopping this one now.
