Is there any substantial difference between a T20 and T30 IM residency?

In the end, is there any substantial difference between a T30 program like Emory and a T10? T30s have outstanding resources as well. If I, say, decided I wanted to go into cardiology during residency, would my outcomes be very different?
No your outcomes will not be that different coming from Emory vs a T10 for things as uncompetitive as rheum. Outcomes may vary slightly for something as uber competitive as cards but a quick glance of the emory fellowship match shows their cards matches are decently strong.

Now of course there's a lot of assumptions and biases baked into fellowship match lists but since you're already geographically limited, pick a program that makes you happy and fits with your partners job limitations.

Yes, if I saw a doctor who went to rank 21 instead of rank 19, I'd think that doctor barely passed his tests and should not be practicing medicine 🙄😆

Rheum is more competitive than it used to be.

Agree that these ranks are unlikely to make much of a difference.
