Hi,

I created a new name to remain anonymous. I have a 3.9/34 non-URM with loads of research, a few publications, virtually unlimited amount of hours in hospital experience paid/non-paid and non-health types of volunteering since entering college.

I paid a professional to write my essay. I reviewed it, everything look good. I haven't gotten any interviews this semester and I know a lot of the schools I applied to are still interviewing. I was considering sending letters of intent, but everyone sends those, and I feel it's not going to make me stand out.

I was thinking that maybe I should ask my dad so I can get seats. He has a lot of connections, but wanted me to pull through on my own. If my dad makes a few phone calls, and I get accepted at a few schools what's the deadline for deciding on a single school?

Also, please don't advise me to apply to DO training programs or off-shore medical schools (yes I know those places take people late in the year and it's not really my kind of environment, if you catch my drift--plus my dad will give me ****, rightfully so). I think my stats earned me the right to aspire high.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

You should let us read your application and personal statement. PM if you want personal feedback.

I was thinking that maybe I should ask my dad to make hefty donations to a few schools, so I can get a seat (or a few) that someone else would have. He has a lot of connections, but wanted me to pull through on my own. If my dad makes a few phone calls, and I get accepted at a few schools (which more than likely will happen), what's the deadline for deciding on a single school?

Did you only apply to top-tier schools? If so, that may be your problem. Also, it may be obvious that your personal statement was written by a professional. If I saw an app like that, I'd throw it in the garbage. It's fraud-like behavior.

I applied top tier and mid tier as back up. Even though the professional wrote it, I still reviewed what she wrote to make sure it said the right stuff, but with my voice instead.

Maybe it's just not meant to be this year. Reapply earlier next cycle.
