No one is trying to convince you to change your mind. If you are happy at usc for any reason, you should go there.
Jalby brought out all the negativities of other school at another thread, so I decided to give him some of his own medicine. There are positives to usc and all med schools, but I only brought out the negatives of his school to return his favor.
Although usc does have positivies, I and most people cannot agree that being a county hosp is one of them. And I cannot agree with disregarding all that I've said. I think it's good to keep in back of your mind things anyone tells you. I dont care for derm, bas sci research, or prestige either. Derm is only important when you want to have lots of kids, research/prestige if you want to secure a good residency/job/fellowship. But everyone has to pick a school based on their own personal preference.
Keep in mind for the 3rd time, I am talking about county hospitals, not schools.
As for learning, some ppl learn better without help, and some learn better with supervision. Attendings usually encourage you to do procedures that you are scared or dont know how to do. They dont hog all the care. How do you learn better, by having someone give you a book and say fix him, or demonstrating to you the procedure. Everyone is diff, and it's all up to you. But from what I've heard, most ppl would rather learn by being taught rather than by self exploration. That is what is unattractive about county hospitals. Now, I didnt say you should change your mind about usc. All I said was, go to general residency forum to get more informed, and then you can make decisions based on what's best for you. You dont need to be so defensive.

chill out, man. All I wanted to say was that Keck is my first choice school for this and that reason and that's IT. cbc's comments will not make me change my mind. Period. End of story.
If something's gonna change my mind it will be after my interview.
I think this argument is going nowhere b/c it's becoming personal.
Ergo, I am disregarding all the stuff cbc is saying about schools with lots of 'scutwork' or whatever.
I don't care much for derm, basic science research, or "prestige".
My derm doctor at Stanford Hospital and Clinics has a great 9-5 "lifestyle" with great pay. But all she does mostly is prescribe zit medications for the most part to teenagers with PPO plans, with wealthy enough parents to afford a 20 dollar prescription to clindamycin or differin or acutuane. I am one of those patients, when I occasionally break out.
