In today's ever advancing world of medicine, there is always new data and research out that one must be familiar with. I was wondering what journals that one must at least browse through to keep themselves in the know. Each specialty has its own top journal(s) and I wanted to know what the consensus was.

Medicine : NEJM, Lancet, Circulation, JAMA

Ophtho : Ophthalmology

Fell free to add any other specialties and the corresponding journals!

Radiation Oncology: International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics (IJROBP)
Oncology: JCO

I'm not sure I would include JAMA on the list--in fact, I'm sure I wouldn't.

I do agree about JAMA - I just included it b/c in the past there have been some impacting articles/studies that were published in it. Its not on the same level as the other medicine journals.

Surgery - Archives of Surgery, Annals of Surgery, Journal of the ACS

Oncology - Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI), Journal of Clinical Oncology (JCO)

Medicine - add Science, Nature

Radiology - Radiology, British Journal of Radiology

Neurosurgery - Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery

I think it's worthwhile for most doctors (and probably all in primary care) to check American Family Physician every now and then.

The most basic stuff is likely what patients ask about most...

Circulation??? Good journal, but I'm not sure it belongs next to NEJM and Lancet...

Don't take it down! I have a publication in Circulation!
