Is is mandatory to go the extra mile and do research while a 3rd/4th year if your not completely interested in it. I am interested in landing a quality residency and my step one score is in the high 230's, but i do have the label of USIMG. Can anyone give me some serious advice. Thanks

It's not mandatory, but for places that stress research (ie most top programs, if not all), there will be people who did some and you'd be better off being one of them. But no, there are many who get into top places with out it. I'd think top grades and your good score on Step I would probably be enough, though the IMG issue might make things trickier at places like Cornell (well known for snobbery).

Good luck,

SW

thanks sean for the advice, considering the increased competitiveness of gas, and my status, it is probably a wise decision to get my hands on something in research.
