Ranked how, exactly? Board scores? Steak dinners per capita during RRC visits? Percent of graduates who avoid prison time?

I would rank MGH, UCSF, Yale, U Chicago, CCF etc ahead of many programs on the list.

At least 30% of the programs listed by lane are not 1st or 2nd tier programs. I agree with pgy13 that it is based on reaccreditation. Several of these programs have new chairs who are no-names with no academic pedigree. Many of these programs rely on FMG's and fresh grads as their primary instructors in the OR's.

i'm just curious to know which of those listed would be third tier or below. that may come in handy for those applying to residency.

Holy cow people.

Interview at places you WANT TO. You'll see where you fit in (people have similar personalities to you) and where you don't (raging nerds...just kidding...sort of 🙂) on the trail.

If you got crappy board scores then I urge you to interview at places YOU WANT TO and a few extra on the side to cover your butt.

Rush -Maine - Kansas - Maryland - Nebraska - Albany - NYU - UNC - Vanderbilt - Vermount are all probably 3rd tier. Although some of these institution seem to be big names - the faculty retention and faculty experience is very low. Who wants to have a freshly minted pgy4 teaching you how to do things. The good residents get jobs in private practice and gainexperience while the others hangout to do the grunt work at the university.

If that's a 5 year accreditation list, it's missing quite a few probably. I already know that U of Chicago is missing because they emphasized that during the interview along with the usual 100% board pass in recent years. And where is UCLA, Clev Clinic, UPenn...?

Also, the point made about faculty is important. Northwestern BEFORE had a problem retaining faculty but they have changed things are on the way up in terms of stability.

That can't be the whole list. That is certainly an incomplete source.

UCLA didn't have their RRC cycle on my source. I accidentally omitted U of Chicago - they are 5. Cleveland Clinic is 3 years. UPenn is 4 years.

As for others mentioned, MGH is 3 years, UCSF is 4 years, Yale is 3 years.
