I found a rank list of hospitals

...and I've seen some mentionings here and there....any ranking of residency programs/links????

or

I can't remember where I saw it before (I've been diong a lot of reading here all over the place), but can someone repost the programs in different tiers...

I see people talking about Virginia having recognized programs but I do not see them as having a ranked hospital....

I want to go to a recognized program that will increase my chances of obtaining a fellowship....

Can somebody help me out.

No, this list is not a ranking of residency programs. That list is based on hospital name recognition and reputation, not on program educational quality. There is a disclaimer attached to the list, "Ranked only by reputation, hospitals in these specialties were names by at least 3 percent of the specialists responding to U.S. News surveys in 2002, 2003, and 2004."
Although it may have an indirect connections in some instances.

From what I'm aware of there is no formal ranking list of PMR programs, you just have to do it on your own by gathering information from residents and your rotations.

Use the list as a guide, but do your research on the programs...there are a lot of programs in the country, and you want to make sure you fit in, and they fit you.

Re; the US News survey, I think they got the top 5 right (RIC, UW, TIRR, Kessler, Mayo).

I don't think Craig, Rusk, and Rancho have the 'residency' reputation that tOSU, UMich, & TJU have, but that's stuff I have heard through the grapevine & not what I have seen personally.

Honestly, if you are thinking of fellowships, bust your a$$ and get published, rock your SAEs, etc., & I think things will sort themselves out. It helps if you goto a program that has in-house fellowships, tho 😛

I agree, the top 5 are about right, but the rest of the list does not accurately represent the caliber of residency programs in all cases. In fact, I think some of the programs rely on the USnews rankings to make their prorgrams seem more attractive then they really are. I have found that the best way to get an informal idea of the rankings of PM&R programs is to search this site or query the residents that routinely contribute here.

I don't know much about it other than the info the put on their web site, they are supposed to have a good sports med fellowship, and from what I hear the idiosincrosies of living in Utah....

Jeff and Temple are strong inpatient programs, Penn is stronger in mskl and has many more interventional opportunities as a resident.

I think Utah is a very good program, and I ranked them very highly. Their didactics are great and the attendings are eager to teach. The program attracts very strong candidates, and they have matched very well in the past few years. The residents are very bright and seem willing to help each other out and challenge each other. The residents are very active and do have time to enjoy extracurricular activites such as great skiing, outdoor activities, and sports. They all seem to get along very well and are laid back. There are both MD's and DO's. I think the personality and quality of residents is a strength of the program. Dr. Willick runs the sports/spine fellowship which is a great fellowship, and residents do spend time at the UofU Orthopaedic Center which is incredible. That is where the sports med rotations take place and is where the fluoro suite is. Residents do get some hands on experience with interventional procedures, and can probably get quite a bit depending on thier interest and how they spend their elective time. Their EMG experience is adequate but I wouldn't say outstanding. They are currently in a transitional phase with their chair. In my opinion this is definitely a program worth a look and rank.

As for living in Salt Lake, it isn't as bad as people may think. There is plenty to do around, and the nightlife is not as dull as some may think. The outdoor activities are unmatched in any major city, and I'm sure I don't have to comment on the skiing. If you have any questions about living in SLC you can PM me.
