So I'm starting to think about my personal statement topic for next year. I am a nontrad grad, currently working as an occupational therapist in an inpatient rehab unit (primarily working with patients who have sustained a stroke) Do you guys thinks it's a given that my PS should be about why I want to switch careers to medicine? I'm had other unique and cool experiences (working at a refugee camp in Hungary providing pyschosocial group sessions, answering phones on a suicide hotline and just tons of inspiring patients whom I've worked with)
Should I just stick with why I'm switching? Or is it alright if I interweave some of the ideas?
Thanks!

Ultimately, you've got to decide what your PS is about, as you're going to have to write it. But I think it probably is a good idea to include your thoughts about why medicine is better for you than your current work, whether or not that's the unifying theme.

As far as "interweaving ideas"... people obviously include more than one 'idea' in their PS. Your skill as a writer depends how many seemingly different things you can work into a coherent essay before it seems trite and forced.

In any case, you've got plenty of time to write it. If you want to think about it now, I'd recommend just sitting down and writing a long unedited draft now. You can cut it down and streamline it later, and it might help you decide which things you want to write about.
