Hey folks,

I'm doing a prelim. medicine year and am giving a presentation to my medicine team on Wednesday. Since I'll be doing anesthesiology, I told them I'd do an anesthesia topic related to the general practice of medicine. I'm leaning towards a discussion on pain, since this is a problem many patients suffer while in the hospital.

However, I'd like to see if anyone has any suggestions regarding anesthesia topics pertinent to a general medicine practice.

Thanks for the input!

Preoperative evaluation is one that comes to mind. When to order what test, lab, what to do with the results, etc.

I'll second preop eval. Look up the ACC/AHA guidelines about risk stratification for noncardiac surgery. It's a fairly lengthy but very well written document, and you can make copies of the flowsheets to hand out. Very good to get versed in the lingo now, ie: moderate risk pt for a low risk procedure, etc.

What about "Code Blue- Tales from the Airway Team"...

...or my favorite, "Scrubs- To Tuck or not to Tuck?"
