What volume of HCl was added if 20 mL of 1M NaOH is titrated with 1M HCl to produce pH=2.
Getting rid of all of NaOH will take 20mL of HCl, leading to 40 mL neutral solution. pH=2 = 10^-2 H+ concentration = 10^-2 HCl concentration
(1M)(X mL)=(10^-2M)(40+X mL) = 20.4 mL
The answer came out to be 20.4mL. Answer choices were 10.2mL, 20.2mL, 30.4mL, 35.5mL, none of the above.
The correct was none of the above, NOT 20.2mL. what the heck. Is this just a stupid mistake on Topscore, or do we really have to pay attention to answers that closely. Not to mention 3/4th of the chem problems in this topscore test was difficult calculation problems and i got too dependent on rounding.
