Topscore conflicts with destroyer..help
Started by BiomajorPreDent
i believe hydrolysis of ATP is exergonic because cleaving a high energy phosphate bond releases energy that is used to drive biosynthetic processes. The main function of ATP in the cell is to act as the energy supplier, so it should be intuitive that hydrolysis of ATP releases energy. I don't know why TopScore would say otherwise.
Ya I know..heres the exact question, maybe they mis-worded it
"The hydrolysis of ATP from ADP and inorganic phosphate:"
the explanation:
"ATP is a renewable source of energy to drive cellular work that can be regenerated by the addition of a phosphate to ADP. The regeneration of ATP from ADP is an endergonic process."
😕

ya...but its saying hydrolysis...which refers to the breakdown of it..
shouldnt the correct term topscore should have used been "phosphorylation" ?
Im looking at it in my campbells text its a tiny two paragraph section of page 150 in the 7th edition..
It says ATP synthesis from ADP + Pi requires energy
but ATP HYDROLYSIS to ADP + Pi yields energy
So that word hydrolysis shouldnt have been used..right?

OMG LOL
Do you want to know something even funnier..actually its sad because I am now questioning the accuracy of this damn program..
I sent an email to topscore...and I noticed this question was already edited...
2. Test 3, Bio, Question 2
Question stem changed from "formation" to "hydrolysis"
http://www.scholarware.com/DATFix07.x.htm
So they had it correct the first time and they changed it!!! 😱

ATP Hydrolysis is without a doubt Exorganic! ATP get's converted to ADP, when the last high energy phosphate bond is cleaved. This results in release of energy (exorganic reaction), which can then be used to derive other metabolic processes in the body.

Breaking a bond requires energy, making a bond releases energy. So it is incorrect to say 'cleaving a high energy phosphate bond releases energy'. The extra energy actually comes from the reaction of hydrolysis.
Hmmm...Perhaps he/she is referring to the net energy change!Breaking a bond requires energy, making a bond releases energy. So it is incorrect to say 'cleaving a high energy phosphate bond releases energy'. The extra energy actually comes from the reaction of hydrolysis.
