I read reviews on topscore from Amazon.com
I read the threads in which some people say it is easier than the real DAT hence not a good reflection of the test, however others stated that this was one of the best test prep which helped them kick butt on the real DAT. I'm getting confused about the topscore😕 What should I make of topscore?

Topscore, from what I have seen from friends and as well as what I have seen on threads seems to be a mixed bag. Some people seem to do very well on topscore, and poorly on the actual DAT as we have recently seen from a few SDN individuals, while others do better as seen with myself along with a few others on SDN. I still personally think it is a very good product that can show you "approximately" how far along you are in your DAT studying experience.

The only way it is a mixed bag is giving you an indicator of your scores. In all other respects it is one of the best purchases you can make. I think people need to stop looking for accurate indicators of scores and realize that these are excellent study tools, which is what you need to be doing - studying. Buy it for sure, just be careful with the 6 month time limit.

But the general feeling of those that gave it a mixed back was that it wasn't an accurate reflection on the DAT.

My experience with topscore was similar to other people's opinions that i have read. I scored lower on the sciences than i did on the real thing and higher on the PAT. So while it might not be a highly accurate indicator of how you will perform on the real DAT in certain areas, I know that it was invaluable to me as a study aid. It helped show me the areas that i needed to spend more time studying (especially the sciences), and so i would go back to the kaplan book and review the areas that i missed on the topscore tests. The kaplan book was my primary guide though...cram all of the info in that book into your brain and then use topscore to see if you really know it all. good luck!

i thought that the topscore was harder for the sciences, especially the really specific questions in bio, but that it was easier (alot easier) in the PAT. the quant and the reading are comparable. the best way to study is to also get the kaplan book and do some of the practice tests in that too (the barrons book is good for science questions but they are different since some are MCAT questions) and do all the tests...you will get a good idea of a range of difficulty, the actual test falls somewhere in the middle.

Here's my take on this:

Topscore was one of the best DAT study aids I had.

It is the ONLY mock-test that gives you the feel of taking the actual DAT.

The sections might be harder than the actual thing, but I in no way held that against Topscore. In fact, I appreciated them being harder, because I wasn't sure if the actual DAT would be easier or harder than Topscore.

When it comes to the DAT it is safe to error on the side of studying too much, and Topscore forced me to do that.

I'd much rather have that than some weeny test that gives me 25s across the board and lulls me into a false sense of security.

And for crying out loud, the CD only cost $25 when I bought it. That's like 5 combo meals. Fork out the cash and your scores will show it (as well as your waistline).

topscore was awesome for ochem, gchem, pat, and math. for bio, just go by the kaplan book.

by the way, remember to get the kaplan DAT book NOT the kaplan MCAT to study bio. the MCAT book does not have plant biology which will be on the dat.
