Topscore, My DAT Score, and Encouragement

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
cool scores !! I am having a hard time with organic!!!

Lephisto, Good job on your DAT. I just wanted to give people even more encourgement. I got a C- in 2nd semester ochem. Some schools don't even accept anything lower than a C. But anyway, I got 100% on my ochem section too and did well on my test overall. So don't give up hope. The actual test is actually easier than the Kaplan/Topscore tests, at least I thought so.

good job man. I think we may have taken the same exact DAT cuz I had an infectious diseases passage for my third RC passage as well, and also, got an AA22 96.1 percentile and a RC27 99.6%. Anyways, congrats, especially on the Ochem section. 👍

ACTUAL DAT (Nov 3, Syracuse Prometric Center)

Academic Average 22 96.1%
Perceptual Ability 17 50.7%
Quantitative Reasoning 16 50.5%
Reading Comprehension 27 99.6%
Biology 18 68.9%
General Chemistry 21 88.3%
Organic Chemistry 29 100% !!!!!!!!! =D
Total Science 20 86.9%

TOPSCORE/KAPLAN (note,I basically took them all in sections...usually one right after the other but still...and my kaplan cd came directly out of the book ruined, so I wasn't abled to use it unfortunately...it had weird white speckles on it that woudln't come off)

TS2 TS3
PA 19 19
QR 16 16
RC 22 19
BIO 17 18
GC 15 16
OC 14 15

BIOLOGY: I know everyone says this is more difficult than the practice tests...but I thought it was about even with them...Theres some stuff you can't possibly know, and other stuff thats pretty basic...if you know 90% of the Kaplan Blue, you'll pretty much assurred an 18

CHEMISTRY: There were some pretty random questions on my DAT that I knew absolutely *nothing* about...but the rest was fair...easier than TS...know kaplan, but definately focus on density, pressure-volume relationships, know what happens when you alpha, beta+, beta-, gamma decay, molarity, molality...anything that the book does an example calculation for KNOW and know well

ORGANIC: well...I guess I got a perfect score on this one...Funny thing is, in Organic chem one, I got a big fat C+!!! shows that dingus who knows there stuff...but honestly, it was all really basic...and I spent maybe 2 days on it...but about 11 hours in 2 days 😛 know all the basic reactions and if they will be syn, anti, markovnikov....I didn't know a thing about peroxides, malonic ester, or anything else complicated...and not a single question on them came up...but who knows...know kaplan

PERCEPTUAL ABILITY: jesus christ...angles are impossible like everyone says...my paper folding had 3 problems with a fold that I had never seen, and couldn't figure out how they did it...and I was actually folding a ripped piece of paper trying ot figure it out!!! key hole were really really hard too...top/front/end were easier than TS, cubes a little easier, and folding about the same

READING COMPREHENSION: Very easy...almost just like topscore, except 1st one is *slightly* harder...otherwise...not bad at all...I did better on the real thing than the practice so...but my third paragraph was on infectious diseases, and I took a bio issues course on infectious diseases...

QUANTITATIVE: easy...I don't know what happened...I felt like I knew 80% of the questions for sure...but I hardly studied this at all...so maybe I just thought I knew what was going on...anyway, I'm sure if you just read the Kaplan book and had decent common sense (which I don't), you'll do fine

HOW I STUDIED: The last 3 1/2 weeks I've studied intensely for about 3 hours a day...the last 3 days much more than that... and I'm not an overly bright person, ANYONE can get what I got...trust me...all you need is a few weeks, and studying the right way. So all you guys who haven't taken it yet, study your ass of for the last few, and I'm sure you can do well/above average

BCP: 3.53
Science 3.63
Non Sci 3.85
Total 3.74
Credits hours gpa
Cayuga County C. C. 103 3.87
SUNY COL GENESEO 30 3.28

So don't let that good GPA confuse you 😛 its all about the 3 years at a community college haha..and I got a C+ in ORGO 1, C+ in Anatomy

Application Submitted: Sept 3, Processed this week or the end of last week, they gave me "will be sent out the week of" answer when I called, so who knows

NY STATE RESIDENT
Applied to: NOVA, NYC, Stony Brook, Buffalo

I'm not asking if I'm going to get in...I just thought you'd like to see the whole stats

Lephisto,

How well did you do on the Kaplan practice test (book) for the PAT section? I have not bought Topscore yet since I am waiting to take the DAT in June. I have Barron's and Kaplan. I am averaging around a 20. But everyone's comments about the angles and keyhole are giving me concern. How well did you do on your practice tests in these sections? Do you think you only dropped maybe a few questions on those sections or do you feel you completely bombed those sections. I usually average a 12-13 on angles and I am becoming a little concerned. Thanks, just curious.

The angles wil probably be impossible. I wouldn't worry too much about the PAT, you can get like 30-40 problems wrong (50-60 right) and still get about a 17-18 on the PAT, if i'm not mistaken. It's not that important of a test either.
