Hey guys,

For question 47 of the first TopScore test, the answer says that the net ionic reaction for BaCO3 (s) + HCl --> is

BaCO3 (s) + 2H+ --> H2O(l) + CO2 (g) + Ba+2 (aq)

I don't understand why BaCl doesn't precipitate out of the solution because aren't chlorides insoluble?? I thought the only exception was if chloride contained Ag, Pb, or Hg.

Help!!
Thanks

According to Chad, the two solubility rules are:

1) Group 1, ammonium salts, SO4^2-, NO3- are soluble.
2) Most of the Ag2+, Pb2+ and Hg2+ are insoluble.

Cl-, Br- and I- are generally soluble with an exception of halide salts with Ag2+, Pb2+ and Hg2+.
