First thing's first.. You've gotta know how to interpret Fischer projections and how to assign priority to the different groups.

You can think of the horizontal lines as wedges and as the vertical lines as in the plane or dashes.

Br has higher atomic mass than F, so it has higher priority.
The group with lowest priority is on a vertical line, so it is directed away from us like a dash. This one is designated (S).
