I'm faced with a very difficult decision between attending VCU or Ohio State. I'm ecstatic about both of these schools as they were in my "top 3" schools that I wanted to go to. Im from Utah so im out of state. I loved both of the programs, and felt very comfortable at both schools. VCU has great facilities - Ohio has great football. Both schools have great reputations from what I understand. Tuition is pretty cheap at both schools VCU = 37,000 and Ohio = 32,000 so I'm not worried about that. I loved VCU's new facilities, but wasn't as impressed with Ohio's (is having new facilities a big deal?). How are the living conditions? Please let me know what you think about these schools, it is just nice to hear other perspectives. Thanks

Also, do any of you know about board scores/ % of students accepted to specialty programs, etc.

Oh, and yes I know that ultimately it is my decision, but as I said it is nice to hear other perspectives.

I just graduated from Ohio State and two of my GPR co-residents are from VCU. I think both schools will give you a fantastic education. My wife and I absolutely loved living in Columbus. It is such a great city. There is unbelievable shopping, restaurants, and so much to do with a family if you have kids. I was faced with a similar decision between VCU and OSU. I chose OSU based on my wife working and getting instant residency (tuition has gone up so much, it makes less difference now than it did) and the fact that I liked Columbus more than I liked Richmond, although most people really like Richmond.

About board scores/specialties...it varies from class to class. Some classes are all out go-getters, others not so much. We had literally no more than a dozen people in my class specialize. I just talked to my buddy a year behind me and they just had seven people match for Ortho. I really believe this is much more a personal thing as opposed to an institutional thing. I honestly doubt that either school will really affect your ability to specialize more than another.

I can promise you as sure as anything that there will be numerous times over the four years there where you will be certain that you chose the worst dental school in the country. You will feel that way at both schools.

I love Ohio State and will have very fond memories of our time there. I don't miss dental school, but I miss the friends and the city. And yes...the football. You will never experience anything better than Saturday afternoon at the Horseshoe.

Feel free to PM me if I can help out any more.

Hey thanks for the input and advice. Today I am leaning more towards Ohio State because the living conditions would be better than Richmond and I think I would be more comfortable in Columbus.

My big concern is about the facilities at Ohio State, it is really a big deal in receiving a good education?
