Toronto`s Hospital for Sick Children

I have a friend who is contemplating a research position (in molecular biology) at the Hospital for Sick Children (affiliated with the University of Toronto). I am aware that the hospital has an excellent worldwide reputation but I don`t personally know anyone who has done research/rotations/residency at this hospital. Can someone please tell me more about the pros and cons of studying and/ doing research there?

Anything with the word "kids" in it brings money money and more money.
With money comes facilities, equipment, and the best scientists. What do you mean by research position? summer job? grad school? I think in this case it depends more on who the PI is and what lab it is. There are crappy labs with lousy PIs and antisocial lab members. And there are super awesome labs there too! Do you know which professor your friend is working under? If you don't want to write it here, PM me. I know the reputation of many PIs there, as long as they are not MDs doing clinical research.
PS. from your post, it sounds like your friend knows nothing about U of T. In that case, if I were her, I'd go for the most tourisy attraction ie Sickkids.

Thanks, for offering advice,clkt. The friend in question has had a change in plans. She is remaining in Montreal to be near her boyfriend and will start a Ph.D program at McGill next year. That was wise on her part- as we Canadians all know, Toronto sucks as a city - no other city rivals Montreal's "joie de vivre"! ;-)
