How many (approximately) dental school applicants are there on
an average? I mean total number of applications AADSAS receives.

Does AADSAS inform the applicants the status by postal mail?
I can only see on the web site that they have received the application.

Vishal,

There were 7770 applicants for the fall 2000 entrance, and 4234 enrolled (55%). Since then a new dental school has opened up, so add about 100 to the number of enrollees (Gavin would know the exact number). I called AADSAS couple months ago asking for the total number of applicants for the 2003 entering class, although they didnt give me an exact number, they did say more than 7500 and less than 8000. so the number of applicants since then has remained approximately constant.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. So it isn't that bad. I was under the impression that it had shot up significantly. Nowhere near the 15K mark of 1975😱

Arizona takes 54 students.

in another words, there will be more than 50% chance to get into a dental schools for u

a friend of mine just sent her AADSAS app and her AADSAS # was in the 2500's. doesn't this # seem a little too low?
by now i thought there would be at least 4000-4500 applicants.

Not at all correct. It is only a 50% chance if EVERYBODY applies to ALL the schools.

You could apply to 25 schools and not get accepted, whereas somebody could apply to one school and get accepted.

Rememer that the data was for TOTAL applicants to ALL dental schools.

Another flaw in that 50% chance assumption is that not all of the applicants are equal. Gaining acceptance to dental school is not like winning the lottery. A person with a 3.75+ undergrad GPA, 22+ on the DAT, good interview skills, great loc's, and fabulous extracurrics is almost a sure bet. On the other hand a person with 2.75- undergrad GPA, 16 DAT, poor interview technique, no extra currics, and marginal loc's stands virtually no chance.
